Stoicism has been a common thread though some of history’s great leaders. It has been practiced by Kings, presidents, artists, writers and entrepreneurs. Marcus Aurelius, Frederick the Great, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt —just to name a few—were all influenced by Stoic philosophy. 


So what is Stoicism? Who were the Stoics? How can you be a Stoic?
Today we are joined by Simon Drew to help us answer some of these questions. 

Simon is an Alignment coach, musician, writer and podcaster originally from the Sunshine Coast, Australia. 

He is most famous for his podcast - The Practical Stoic Podcast, where Simon has been exploring the ideas of Stoicism for numerous years, in addition to helping thousands of people around the world to transform themselves using these ancient principles.

Stoic philosophy has become very popular in our modern day. This renaissance of philosophy has produced many new books and videos on the philosophy and how it is still relevant today. However, what many Stoic philosophers of Greece and Rome believed about the universe has received vague attention. For this episode David explains this Physics that the stoics believed in and it's many comparisons to other belief systems.

Episode 8 - Stoic Physics

Take charge of what you allow into your headspace. You have more control than you think! Our thoughts can hijack our mind only if we allow it. If you're still living in the past you allow those thoughts room to find nourishment in your mind. You're cheating your present AND future by living in the past.  I know it's very difficult at times to leave behind painful memories so allow me to share some tips that may be helpful to you:

1.  Let go of the past- If the thoughts are deeply rooted into your past then consider seeking the expertise of a medical practitioner.  He or she can help you to navigate through those challenging moments. You'll learn the tools or skills that can help you to finally leave the past behind. 

2. Disconnect from people who discourage you or make you feel "less than". Your social circle includes family, friends and coworkers and at times you will need to step away from them for your mental wellness.Whether that distancing be temporary or permanent that will remain up to you. Silence or distancing should NEVER be used as a manipulative tool. Silence says much and it's a powerful weapon to guard you against further mental stress. There are times when you're trying to communicate with another but it's to no avail. They just won't listen then walk away. Time is precious, don't waste it on people who don't care for you. Avoid the arguments because it hurts everyone. I know how hard it is to walk away from people that you love. Sometimes the negativity and stress from a particular social space is just too overwhelming that you have no other choice than to walk way. 

3. Disconnect from digital life to allow yourself some breathing room. Most especially after an illness or trauma . No one ever likes to hear this but it's so beneficial to the body, mind and soul. If you must be online then do your work and remove yourself from it once your task is completed.  Don't even peek at any social media accounts either. Okay?
