Remixer's Notes 01.18.2024:

I view creating remixes as an artform.  I love a pulsing dance beat and traditional club remixes, and they serve a beautiful purpose.  Remixes can also be DIFFERENT, not intended for the club at all.  This is one of those remixes.  This is more of a sonic collage.  In this piece, I wanted to explore multiple concepts layered upon each other:

(1) I wanted to rearrange the lyrics to feel like there is a back-and-forth happening.  I wanted to mirror that in the way the samples seem to "answer each other" as well having their own back-and-forth.

(2) I wanted to use different sounds to explore what happens when there is a miscommunication in love-languages, and how it leads us to fall into a "groove."  The lyrics talking about TOUCH juxtaposed onto sounds of money and adding machines was intentional.

(3) I liked playing with the idea of keeping the rearranged wording vague so it could be interpreted as calling another person a monster, OR it could be self-referential...calling themselves the monster.  There is a very real moment of being in a toxic relationship where you realize you have picked up some toxic traits from staying in that relationship/environment.  By staying with the monster, you can become a monster yourself.  You can be a victim and a villain at the same time...and that concept was very interesting to me.

I love this song so much, and always have.  I've been lucky enough to hear them play this live, and I even got to meet them both at Warped Tour.  (I still have my signed cd!)  They were lovely people.  It was an honor to finally get to glitch up this song...one that continues to help me heal after all these years.
