There aren't all that many sources of inspiration for the love of a human with a water-based humanoid.  Splash, certainly.  The Shape of Water, indeed.  Ummmm...Swamp Thing?  

Of course, The Little Mermaid would be one of these...and there might be a spark borrowed from that in this.  (There might just be as much from Flight of the Conchords "Mermaids".)  There's a lyric line in this track saying "There's nothing in my world I wouldn't give..."

Even a Dinglehoffer?  What about a Snarfblatt?  (Be careful about what you might promise to amphibians, my uncle always used to say...)  

(editor's note:  none of pg's uncles ever said anything like that.)  

So, what we have hear is a story of an unrequitable love between a man and a mermaid.  Unfortunately, in our world, there is no magic "and now you can breathe underwater" magical spell, ability, or item--nor is there a "my fishy parts go away, and thus...legs!"--so, this loved was doomed before it even started.  

Originally, the temporary name for this track I gave when it was just an instrumental was "subsquelch."  I'm not sure when I got the idea to make this aquatic themed--perhaps some of the synths sounded like dolphin noises?  

I do know that the deep sub bass notes that start this track and continue throughout it do remind me of being underwater.  There at least a couple of Interbay tracks posted as videos on Facebook where submarines were inspirations for them...so, I avoided making this track about submarines, just to try something else.  

When I connected this track to "water", I changed it up a lot.  This sure isn't "Subsquelch" (or, for that matter, Kansas) any more.  

I stopped myself from changing more.  My natural instinct was to shape the structure around the vocals--but, ironically, I wanted this track to breathe more freely...so, I left a lot of instrumental sections in.  

A good choon to start the weekend with, I think.  Grab your SCUBA gear because Interbay is taking you "Underwater" with today's posted track.
