Prince Far I born Michael Williams is a roots reggae dub chanter/deejay & producer who started his career in 1969 with producer Bunny Lee. Far I's gruff vocal style is a sinister, eerie, rough & gritty chant that flows beautifully over the heavy roots reggae riddims of the 70's & 80's. His lyrics are mostly known for his critical assessment of the Jamaican government and his Rastafarian faith. He was first given the name King Cry Cry as an artist because of his habit of breaking into tears when angered. In 1970 he was able to get the chance to record a few tracks for producer Coxsone Dodd when King Stitt failed to show up for a session and released the tunes now under the name of Prince Fair I as a suggestion by another producer whom he worked with named Enos McLeod. Over his career spanning from 1969-1983, Prince Far I had released over 18+ albums for various producers such as Bunny Lee, Coxsone Dodd, Enos McLeod, Joe Gibbs, Adrian Sherwood & Roy Cousins. Far I was a regular visitor to the UK in the late 70's and became a firm favorite within the synergy of punk and reggae.

On September 15, 1983, Prince Far I was shot and killed in his home at the age of 38 during a robbery in a dispute over money and later died in the hospital.
