Episode ten focuses on Room to Roam by The Waterboys. While touring Fisherman’s Blues the four-piece Waterboys of Mike Scott, Steve Wickham, Anto Thistlethwaite and Trevor Hutchinson was augmented by Sharon Shannon, Colin Blakey and Noel Bridgeman and it was this seven-piece line-up – The Magnificent Seven as Noel Bridgeman named them – that recorded the fifth Waterboys album Room to Roam. In this episode I chat to Mike Scott about this line-up of The Waterboys, playing small towns throughout Ireland, recording Room to Roam in Spiddal House, the response to the album, putting The Magnificent Seven boxset together and the recording of his forthcoming album All Souls Hill. Mike also pays tribute to drummer Noel Bridgeman who passed away in March 2021.

Escuchamos hoy la sintonía de Ruta 66 en la voz de la cantante alemana Martina Freytag. "Podemos escuchar la voz de Dios llamándonos" dice la canción de Neil Diamond en 1969 (And The Grass Won´t Pay No Mind), que grabó Elvis Presley ese mismo año. La pesca milagrosa (5:1-11) muestra no sólo lo que los discípulos han de hacer, sino quiénes pueden hacerlo. Pedro es pescador, pero tiene que reconocer su indignidad ante Jesús, para poder ser útil en su misión. Su reconocimiento de pecado nos recuerdan "Las penas del pescador" (Fisherman´s Blues) de los Waterboys en 1988 del escocés Mike Scott. Sus inquietudes espirituales le llevan en 1992 a la comunidad cristiana esotérica Findhorn, el mismo año que el judío canadiense Leonard Cohen vuelve a la Biblia, "Esperando el milagro" (Waiting For The Miracle) ante "El futuro" (1992). 

La película "Mass" (2021) pasó algo desapercibida durante la pandemia, aunque llegó a estrenarse en las salas. Es obra de un joven actor de cine, teatro y televisión en Estados Unidos, Fran Kranz, que junta aquí en la sala de una iglesia episcopal a dos matrimonios, uno son los padres de la víctima de un tiroteo en una escuela secundaria y los otros son los padres del adolescente que lo hizo y se suicidó. Es una historia dura, pero poderosa sobre la necesidad del perdón. Cuando Jesús sana a un leproso (vv. 12-15) y a un paralitico (17-26), lo que le sorprende a la gente es que pueda perdonar pecados. José de Segovia comenta los diálogos que escuchamos doblados al castellano con la música de la banda sonora original de Darren Morze, a la luz del texto del Evangelio.

El grupo catalán Mishima se pregunta cómo huir de la memoria hasta llegar a un sitio en que no puedas recordar (Un lloc que no recordi, 2022). No podemos cambiar el pasado, pero Dios tiene poder para cambiar nuestra actitud hacía él y borrar todo aquello que está en nuestra contra, por la sangre de Cristo Jesús. Es el perdón que alcanza al mayor de los pecadores como el corrupto Simón (vv. 27-32). "No hay nada más dulce que el día que encontramos perdón", canta el antiguo miembro de DCTalk, TobyMac, aqui con el músico afroamericano de "hip hop" Lecrae en 2012 (Forgiveness). No hay nada que podamos dar menos por obvio...

""Bring 'Em All In" is a song from Scottish singer-songwriter Mike Scott, which was released as the lead single from his first solo album Bring 'Em All In. It was written by Mike Scott, and produced by Scott and Niko Bolas. The song reached No. 56 in the UK Singles ChaDiana Valois of The Morning Call wrote: "The title cut is a terse taunt rumble of guitar with plenty of drama as Scott shepherds the title chant from a whispered plea to a gravelly command. While Scott isn't a "Christian artist," this cut, which winds into a hushed, church-like chorus, has the right sentiment and edge to cross over. 
    Sandra Schulman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel described the song as "sound[ing] like the song of a savior, requesting all the good, evil and in-between to come into his heart for shelter." Kevin O'Hare, writing for the Newhouse News Service, described the song as "kick[ing] the [album] off in hypnotic and promising fashion."                       Wikipedia

This is an original instrumental track that includes me on guitar and harmonica. I sampled a percussion track and a bell synth through royalty free sites. I also sampled some audio of Mike Scott of the Waterboys from a recent podcast appearance.

My reimagined remix of one of the best tracks ever written about giving yourself up fully to another being written in one of the most intoxicatingly brilliant poetic ways I've ever heard. 

If you haven't heard the original, I implore you to, multiple times it's INSANE. It's gorgeous. One of my top ten tracks ever.

Hi, I started out singing in the 60's. I played in several groups, made a few records. Never went fully pro just played youth clubs, pubs, and socials. 

I play a little guitar and piano just mainly chords and I write a few songs. I purchased a Tyros work station keyboard about 14 years ago and started recording many songs mainly covers. Hope you enjoy listening to some of them.
