Dear Matti aka skarú presents us today with an exclusive recording from this year's Zugvögel Festival. The set is a journey into the thicket of the afterhour. With quirky, hypnotic and sometimes dreamy elements, he takes the listener on a deep but feather-light journey into the world of house and downtempo. Incredibly fun is awiating you.

✔️ What is your musical influences? What is your musical background?
My musical influences originally came mainly from dubstep and house / deep house.  Downtempo came later, around 2015 or so. In the meantime I'm happy to have more acoustic music or ambient in my life. A musical background, outside of the obligatory primary school recorder I don't have one. I just took a lot of time later and tweaked everything. tweaked everything. At some point things start to make sense, I swear!

✔️ What makes a good "afterhour"?
A good afterhour should have electrolytes, water, food and tame music. Something like Billy Caso's “At Home” series.

✔️ What was your experience of the set you recorded on the Zugvögel Festival 2024?
For me, the mix is a nostalgic journey into (my) earlier house and
deep house. So it doesn't claim to be particularly deep.
It's just supposed to make you pee in your eyes about back then and bumble in your ass.

✔️ Do you have any special thoughts you want to share with us about the gig?
The gig was a nice and familiar one. It was on the sauna floor, hosted by Dani, who of course knew all the bangers from back then and was with me on the nostalgia cloud with me. That was exactly what I wanted, thank you!

We have been following Valentina aka diladï and VALE for several years now. Her style and performance have convinced us since the first meeting. Not only does she know how to create a wonderfully dense sound experience on the floor, but she also trumps with her performance behind the decks. It's fun to watch her play. You can tell that she loves to mix and that she literally merges with the audience and the music. That's why we are so excited to finally welcome her to our series. 

She has unpacked her alter ego diladï. Her slower side is tailor-made for our series and heralds a wonderful sound experience right from the start. Melodic, dreamy and with lots of hypnotic synths, she takes the listener by the hand and transports him directly into another world. Great tracks are waiting for us that flow into each other like pearls on a string. From time to time she presses the accelerator a little harder. But the sensual Valentina appears again and again. Wow! The seconds and minutes fly by. To realize again and again that music is simply the most beautiful thing in the world. It evokes feelings and invites you to dream.

✔️ What is your musical background?
 
Early on as a kid I started learning to play the piano, the guitar and also to sing. This continued into my teenage years - later then I also sang in choirs and had individual concerts with bands. As a teenager, my interest switched from mainly indie and alternative music to electronic music; Berlin was definitely very influential and still is today.

✔️ In your opinion, what makes a good afterhour?

When you just don't want to go to sleep and completely lose your sense of time and space.

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix?

This set it less bouncy than usual, I would say, and definitely slower, with a range from 105-108 bpm. With the music I chose this time, I'm exposing a more dreamy and melancholic side of mine. Nevertheless not wanting to lose the drive..

✔️ Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund? 

Schon in meiner Kindheit hat mich meine klassische Musikausbildung geprägt – ich habe 14 Jahre lang Klarinette gespielt. Mit anderen Menschen Musik zu erleben und zu machen, hatte schon immer eine absolut positive Wirkung auf mich. Meine ersten gekauften Alben kamen aber tatsächlich aus dem Bereich der elektronischen Musik, um genau zu sein von Sunshine Live. Danach bin ich durch zahlreiche Genres gereist, bis ich schließlich, auch durch meinen Umzug 2009 nach Berlin, der elektronischen Musik nicht mehr von der Seite weichen wollte. Im Salon der Rummelsbucht habe ich meine Liebe für Downtempo entdeckt.

2023 habe ich durch einen Workshop bei @femquency meine Hemmungen über Board geeworfen und meinen lange gehegten Wunsch, selbst aufzulegen, in die Tat umgesetzt. Eins führte zum anderen – und here we are. Ich könnte nicht glücklicher über diese Entwicklung sein und freue mich, meine musikalische Reise mit Euch zu teilen.

✔️ Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus? 

Liebe Menschen, ein heißer Kakao und vor allem viel Zeit für langsame Beats.

✔️ Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben? 

Manchmal ist es nicht ganz einfach, sich in einen Club-Kontext hinein zu denken und fühlen, wenn der eigene Modus sich eher auf der Couch befindet. Drei Entwürfe wurden verworfen, bis ich mich dazu entscheiden habe, mich auf meine erste Intuition zu verlassen.
Für mich ist essentiell Momente zum Träumen, zum Weinen, zum Lachen und zum Abschalten zu generieren, dabei aber immer in einer positiven Energie zu bleiben.

✔️ Bei Mitschnitten von Gigs: Wie hast du den Gig im Beate Uwe empfunden? 
Ich durfte einen komplett vollen und aufgeheizten Floor übernehmen - Big Shoutout an Joanna Lenta! Da war ich schon sehr nervös, aber ab Track Nummer 1 war irgendwie alles gut! Die Energie der TänzerInnen hat mich komplett abgeholt und entspannen lassen. Und dann war da dieser Flow, von dem alle reden. Ich glaube man hat es mir angesehen.
