This will help verify the authenticity of images shared across the web, tackling the issue of misinformation and increasing accountability in the digital space.

Anthropic’s Constitutional Classifiers block AI jailbreaks with ninety-five percent success. Anthropic has introduced a new method called Constitutional Classifiers, which effectively protects artificial intelligence models from jailbreaks, or unauthorized attempts to override their safety measures. With an impressive success rate, this innovation aims to keep A-I systems in check.

SoftBank and OpenAI form SB OpenAI Japan to expand A-I services. The two companies have launched a joint venture to boost A-I capabilities in Japan. This collaboration intends to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies in various sectors, enhancing service offerings across the region.

Microsoft forms an Advanced Planning Unit to study A-I's societal impact. This new unit will focus on the implications of artificial intelligence on society, including healthcare and workforce dynamics. By anticipating potential challenges, Microsoft aims to foster responsible A-I development.

On a daily basis, we’re faced with a deluge of online content, only swelling further with the mainstreaming of generative AI and rising political polarisation. Improving our joint understanding of how people consume news, and how effectively they distinguish between fact and fiction, is one of the key challenges of our time.  

The OECD Truth Quest Survey implements an innovative methodology to answer this question. With over 40,000 respondents across 21 countries, the survey provides unprecedented insights into media literacy and its implications for global policy making. 

In this episode of Behind the Numbers, our host Ashley Ward is joined by OECD Head of Digital Connectivity, Economics and Society Molly Lesher to discuss the dangers of misinformation, overcoming measurement challenges, and the survey results so far.

Can you handle the truth? Putting misinformation to the test with the OECD Truth Quest Survey

Violent and systemic voter suppression has kept communities of color from the voting booth. But perhaps as generations turn to more innovative platforms than years past, voter suppression has taken up a more covert form. 

The greater accessibility and reach of today’s communication methods allow someone aiming to keep voters from the polls the greater means to do so. Even a casual post on the Internet today can accidentally bring the voter turnout down. A comment by a human-like bot might tell a lie about a candidate. A podcast could exclaim that elections are pointless and all candidates are the same. Or video from a classmate from high school could portray the length of a polling center line. Anti-voting influencers make the polls seem mundane, tedious, and ineffective to those able to cast ballots.

Archival documents published by The Guardian and DeSmog show that the Air Pollution Foundation  — the front group WSPA created as a means of delaying clean air regulation implementation aimed at curbing deadly smog emissions in Los Angeles and statewide —  led to the discovery of climate change. WSPA was the top funder of the Air Pollution Foundation, whose research concluded that atmospheric carbon could “ultimately prove of considerable significance to civilization.”

Seeing Through the Smog: How Big Oil Manipulates Climate Science with Rebecca John

AI Proves Social Media Is Destroying Us | Karel Cast 25-112

In August 2024, unrest swept across the UK after the tragic killings in Southport, fuelled by online misinformation and weaponised fears about migration. In Bristol, the tension erupted in Castle Park and outside the Mercure Hotel, where asylum seekers were housed. The police presence was thin. The danger was real. And yet, what happened next was extraordinary, ordinary Bristolians put their bodies on the line to defend their neighbours.

We Don’t Do That Here is a one-hour audio documentary from Bristol's community radio stations - BCfm and Ujima, weaving together multiple in-depth interviews with those who lived it: refugees inside the hotel with their children, activists and local residents on the streets, police officers, youth workers, charity leaders, journalists, and community broadcasters. Their voices reveal the fear of that week, the courage of those who stood in solidarity, and the deep divisions that surfaced under pressure.

The programme also investigates the powerful role of media and misinformation, such as how a single false claim spiralled into riots, how national outlets inflamed stereotypes, and how community radio and grassroots networks became lifelines of truth. Listeners hear not just about what happened, but why, and what it tells us about Britain in an age of polarisation.

Above all, this is a story of resilience. From smiles through hotel windows to grandmothers holding banners, from grassroots charities to city-wide counter-protests, Bristol’s communities demonstrated that hate would not go unchallenged. This documentary asks: what does it take to keep a city safe, welcoming, and united, and what can the rest of the country learn?
