Small Business Association of Michigan Foundation Announces Inaugural Women's Entrepreneurial Fellowship New Program Addresses Multiple Challenges for Second-Stage, Women-Owned Businesses

LANSING, Mich. – The SBAM Foundation (SBAMF), supported by its parent organization, the Small Business Association of Michigan, has launched its Women's Entrepreneurial Fellowship (WEF) program and chosen 11 businesses for the first cohort. The eight-month initiative will equip these second-stage, women-owned businesses with resources to overcome diverse challenges and scale their operations. Women-owned businesses are a vital part of Michigan's economy, representing 43.2% of the state's 902,131 small businesses—higher than the national average. Detroit, in particular, was ranked as the top U.S. metropolitan area for growth in women-owned businesses.

“The launch of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Fellowship is an exciting step toward ensuring that second-stage, women-owned businesses receive the targeted support they need to thrive, said Brian Calley, SBAM President & CEO. “This program will provide invaluable resources, from mentorship and business certifications to networking opportunities and access to capital, helping these entrepreneurs overcome the unique challenges they face.”

Qualifying businesses have more than one employee in addition to the owner, have been in operation for at least two years, and generate a minimum of $500,000 in annual revenue. Here are the businesses that were selected for the inaugural cohort: ● Eagle Specialties, LLC ● Elderly Instruments ● Fido & Stitch ● Groovy Donuts ● Jungle Jane Promotions ● Marshall Holding ● Neuco Furniture & Upholstery ● Pioneer Machine and Technology, Inc ● The Betty Brigade ● Winsome Travel Design ● Wolverine Pickleball

Recent data underscores the need for the support provided by this new program. Only 10% of women business owners report securing a small business loan, and women-owned businesses receive just 2.2% of all venture capital funding in the U.S. Operationally, 59% struggle with hiring and retaining qualified staff, while 80% face difficulties dealing with increased costs.

"Women-owned businesses in Michigan confront a multitude of challenges that hinder their growth potential," said Kim Bode, Program Director. "From financial constraints to operational difficulties, our fellowship is designed to address these issues comprehensively."

To address these issues, the Women's Entrepreneurial Fellowship offers:

● One-on-one mentorship with established business leaders

● Monthly learning sessions on critical business topics

● Networking opportunities with investors and industry leaders

● Guidance on accessing capital and growth resources

● Support in obtaining relevant business certifications

● Specialized courses on financial management, marketing, and operational efficiency

Tony Bass is less concerned with building psychological metatheories than with how theory comes alive in the consulting room. From the earliest days of the Relational movement, he worked alongside Stephen Mitchell and others to shape a vision of treatment grounded in mutual influence, drawing inspiration from Ferenczi’s dialogue of unconsciouses—an approach Bass experiences as intuitive and “not so meta.” But whose unconscious is it, anyway? For Tony, the analytic encounter always points to interplay: between patient and analyst, healer and healed. In his view, psychotherapy is not the application of a fixed model but an ongoing improvisation, in which each subjectivity becomes instrumental to the unfolding of new meanings and unexpected revelations of both similarity and difference.

Ra-Daze Ltd.

In the beginning there was DoWop....singing under the streetlight on hot summer nites. Emerging into Motown clones like Jr. Temptations challenging all comers to do battle citywide participating in every talent contest available. Performing Acapella or with local bands emerged "The Young Generation". Observed by the likes of Mr. Big Stuff Barry White we cut our first single entitled "The Young Generation" whereupon TYG became "The Clique" performing with "The Burning Coal", a local band consisting of Dennis Musgrove (Bass), John Lundy (guitar), Elsworth Moultrie (keyboards), Jeru Morgan (drums), with additional percussion, and saxophone sidemen. Having a taste for the aesthetics of Jazz, Motown gave way to a group of talented musicians whom had taken 2nd place in a talent search @ the Hollywood Bowl playing the classics of Miles, Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Lee Morgan, and McCoy Tyner. We were a natural fit, my vocals and their compositions. Playing all over Southern California The Aesthetic Brotherhood wound up in the first Watts Festival @ the Coliseum playing with groups like Eric Burdon and War and The Watts 103rd Street Band . With our original compositions like "Beautiful and Now" and “Lamentations of a Middle Passage" we were set to sign our first record deal with Black Jazz Records then....well...you know. On a brief hiatus, moving up to Northern California to San Jose, I met a young lady celebrating her graduation with honors in music @ San Jose State (Valarie Simpson) who encouraged me to continue to evolve. Embarking on a solo career wasn't easy singing @ local Fraternity and Sorority events. Kappa Alpha Psi came into my life and led me to another talented group of Brothers deeply immersed into the "Cosmic Slop" of Funkadelic. Back to Southern Cali with my mind on the Funk, The MotherFunkingNupeBand was born. Kappa Bred and totally driven by the Crimson and Kreme, MFNB traveled the College circuit throughout California bringing a new brand of music on the scene, DaFunk... MFNB laid the foundation for musical experiences that included Sly Stone, his brother Freddie, Rose Banks, Johnny Guitar Watson, Bobby Womack, and many members from Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy, Parlet, and Brides of Funkenstein. All the above led to the formation of Ra-Daze and The Electric War Babies. Through these two bands the outreach has been worldwide encompassing each member and crosscutting from concept to concept. Ra-Daze Ltd. has become an institution spanning 4 decades with more that 50 musicians and singers. Indefinable, Ra-Daze can't be labeled but must continue to be heard. Ra-Daze is a myriad of concepts engaging all members of the musical community not to exclude the ancient masters of African edenic past. Detailing every genre from Aardvark to Zygote. Hitting all categories combining charts from Billboard to Soundscan.

Jehanne combines her love of European and popular music to craft and cover songs that speak to the heart. Influences span hard rock, acoustic ballads, mellow soul vibes, classical, dance and rap. 

Based in Leeds in the UK, Jehanne has also lived in central France, and Paris. A perfect morning would be with croissants, fromage and ‘un petit café’ watching the world go by.

Jehanne has been writing and recording demo songs with friends on and off for a number of years. A chance meeting with The Argent Grub (David Carpenter) has resulted in a collaboration that has led to some new music being recorded and some old demos being reworked into tracks for release.
