Te Deum Pavla Kršku, sakrálny hymnus oslavujúci Boha, často zaznieva pri významných príležitostiach. Skladateľ Pavol Krška toto dielo špecificky skomponoval práve na slovenské texty, čím umocnil jeho duchovnú a umeleckú hodnotu. Premiérová nahrávka tohto oratória, naživo zaznamenaná v Jezuitskom chráme v Bratislave, si vyslúžila veľké uznanie.

Grace Unbound, composed by Gerda Blok-Wilson, is a choral work for SATB choir and organ/piano, beautifully recorded by the Rocky Mountain Chamber Choir - 2025. 

This piece explores themes of hope, renewal, and boundless love through flowing melodies and rich harmonies. With an open and expressive character, it is well-suited for concert programs, reflective performances, and special occasions.

During the Second World War she inspired all British soldiers involved in the war and got the surname Sweetheart Of The Forces. Willy Hautvast arranged her four most famous songs We'll Meet Again, Now Is The Hour, From The Time You Say Goodbye and The White Cliffs Of Dover.

Dielo Magnificat Pavla Kršku pre dve gitary a miešaný zbor predstavuje jedinečnú syntézu duchovnej tradície a moderného hudobného jazyka. Skladateľ čerpá inšpiráciu z biblického chválospevu Panny Márie, pričom jeho hudobná reč je citlivou fúziou sakrálneho náboja a komorného výrazu.

Kompozícia oplýva bohatou melodikou, ktorá sa vznáša nad jemnými i rytmicky pulzujúcimi gitarovými sprievodmi. Pavol Krška využíva kontrasty medzi meditatívnymi úsekmi a dramatickými vrcholmi, čím vytvára dynamickú hudobnú formu plnú expresivity. Polyfónne vedenie hlasov v zbore umocňuje textovú expresiu a dodáva dielu hĺbku, pričom gitary tvoria nielen harmonickú, ale aj koloristickú oporu.

Harmónie sú postavené na modalite a jemných chromatických postupoch, ktoré dodávajú skladbe súčasný, no stále sakrálny charakter. Dielo tak oslovuje nielen milovníkov duchovnej hudby, ale aj poslucháčov vyhľadávajúcich moderné hudobné spracovanie tradičných liturgických textov.

Skladba Magnificat Pavla Kršku je príkladom citlivého spojenia tradície a inovácie, kde sa duchovný obsah stretáva s jemnou, no precízne premyslenou hudobnou štruktúrou.


[EN: The work Magnificat by Pavol Krška for two guitars and mixed choir represents a unique synthesis of spiritual tradition and modern musical language. The composer draws inspiration from the biblical canticle of the Virgin Mary, while his musical expression is a sensitive fusion of sacred depth and chamber-like subtlety.

The composition is rich in melody, soaring above delicate yet rhythmically pulsating guitar accompaniments. Pavol Krška masterfully employs contrasts between meditative passages and dramatic climaxes, creating a dynamic musical form full of expressivity. 2 songs from George Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess (1934). These are It Ain’t Necessarily So, a very popular song sung by Sportin’ Life, a drug dealer presenting his cynical views on the Bible, and I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’ in which Porgy sings about his poverty with a happy-go-lucky outlook on life. Skillfully arranged by master arranger Johan de Meij.

Gerda earned a Bachelor of Music (UBC), Professional Teaching Certificate (UBC), Kodály Teaching certificate (VAM), Master of Education (U of Calgary)-Kodály music. 

She is founding director of the 110 member Vancouver CanSing Choirs (Youth/Adult), conductor for SelfDesign home schooling choir, Artist-in-Residence for St Patrick’s Chamber Choir and provides support for grade 8-12 choir.    

 Recently, Gerda offered choral development for Simon Fraser, Lord Tennyson Choirs, original musical theatre at General Wolfe, and conducting development for the BC Kodály Association-Douglas College.

 Gerda’s career has included performance tours in England, New York, across Canada, commissioned choral pieces by Raminsh, Telfer and Bosma and performance honours at Carnegie Hall (Missa Brevis by Raminsh), Ottawa (Unisong Festival), Musicfest Canada (Calgary/Vancouver/Ottawa), Performing Arts BC and National Festivals.  She has conducted the BC Music Educator’s Honour Elementary Choir and her choirs have been   demonstration choirs at festivals including Musicfest Canada and BC Performing Arts Festival.

Gerda was conductor for the award-winning Bel Canto Choirs (Prince George), PG Jazz, Cantata Singers, PGSSHigh School choir.  She served as Music Resource Teacher for SD#57 and taught summer music education courses at UNBC.  She has 4 mini-musicals published by THEMES AND VARIATIONS and continues to arrange and compose music for choirs.
