I packed my strength with my last goodbye,
Hung it next to coats I swore I’d never try.
Felt the pull when the bottle clinked,
Passed your street, but I didn’t blink.
It’s funny how a song, a scent, a sound
Can drag a healed heart back underground.
The easy way down’s got a velvet feel,
Whispers sweet lies you want to believe are real.
It shows up soft like a second chance—
But leaves you cold with empty hands.
It don’t ask much, just one small slide—
You blink and you’re back on the wrong side.
You texted “Hey”—and I just stared,
Like my backbone suddenly wasn’t there.
I counted reasons like they were beads—
But none of ‘em fed the part that needs.
Sometimes it’s not about being strong—
Just sitting with silence when the night feels long.
