Treinta segundos duran los vídeos en las redes que mandan los gazatíes documentando la masacre que sufren desde el 7 de octubre. Unos vídeos y fotografías que, en muchas ocasiones, son borrados por las mismas redes sociales. “Por eso tomé la decisión de dibujar esos vídeos, como herramienta de documentación que no pueda ser borrada para encubrir los crímenes que se están cometiendo contra la población de Gaza”, afirma Mohammed Sabaaneh, autor del libro.  

Las ilustraciones no son digitales, sino dibujadas a mano con tinta china sobre papel, ya “que no se borra con el agua ni con cualquier otra solución, a forma de metáfora de que esta sangre que vemos fría y seca en las retransmisiones desde Gaza, desde sus hospitales, en la cara de sus niños… ni se va a borrar ni se va a olvidar”, señala el reconocido dibujante palestino.  

30 segundos en Gaza es un proyecto editorial que cuenta con un prólogo del historiador israelí Ilan Papé y que se edita simultáneamente en Francia, Italia y España. En esta última, su publicación ha sido posible gracias a la campaña de crowdfunding de la Fundación Al Fanar para el Conocimiento Árabe. Una vez cubiertos los gastos de la edición todos los fondos recaudados irán a Gaza en el marco de la campaña cocinaXpalestina.

Sabaaneh dialogará con Luz Gómez, catedrática de Estudios Árabes e Islámicos de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Presenta el acto Karim Hauser, coordinador de Programas Culturales de Casa Árabe.

Mohammad Sabaaneh, dibujante, palestino de origen y andadura. Sus dibujos son un testimonio del constante viaje del pueblo palestino bajo la opresión. En sus trazos se sostiene una desgañitada reivindicación de justicia, libertad, dignidad…comida, agua: humanidad, futuro, vida. En su carrera ha destacado en publicaciones como The Washington Post o Al Quds Al Arabi. Es miembro del International Cartoon Movement y ha recibido varios premios, incluyendo el EWK Award en 2024. Sus exposiciones han sido internacionales, participando en España en «Historia e identidad de Palestina». Sus conferencias en universidades como Columbia o Georgetown reflejan su reconocimiento global. En 2017, representó a Palestina en la ONU con un mural. Ha comisariado tres importantes exposiciones en Palestina y ha publicado libros que han sido traducidos a varios idiomas. Su primera novela gráfica, «Poder nacido de los sueños. Mi historia de Palestina», ha sido publicada en EE.UU., Italia y Francia. Sabaaneh utiliza su arte también para apoyar a estudiantes sordos y niños con trauma, afirmando que el arte palestino es una forma de resistencia y un medio para inspirar esperanza y paz.

The videos on social networks sent by Gazans documenting the massacre they have been suffering since October 7 have a duration of 30 seconds. They include videos and photographs are often deleted by social networks themselves. “That is why I made the decision to create drawings of these videos, as a tool for documentation that cannot be erased in order to cover up the crimes being committed against the people of Gaza,” says Mohammed Sabaaneh, the book’s author.  

The illustrations were not made digitally, but instead were hand-drawn using Chinese ink on paper, since “it cannot be erased with water or any other solution, as a metaphor showing that the blood we see cold and dry in the broadcasts from Gaza, in its hospitals and on the faces of Gaza’s children... will never be erased or forgotten,” says the renowned Palestinian cartoonist.  
"30 seconds in Gaza" is a publishing project with a foreword by the Israeli historian Ilan Papé published simultaneously in France, Italy and Spain. The latest edition of the publication was made possible thanks to the crowdfunding campaign by the Al Fanar Foundation for Arab Knowledge. Once the publishing costs have been covered, all of the funds raised will go to Gaza as part of the cocinaXpalestina campaign.

Sabaaneh will be holding a dialogue with Luz Gómez, a professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Presenting the event is Karim Hauser, coordinator of Casa Árabe’s Cultural Programs.

Mohammad Sabaaneh, a cartoonist, Palestinian by origin and background. His drawings bear witness to the constant journey by the Palestinian people under oppression. In his drawings there is a outcry for justice, freedom, dignity... food and water: humanity, future, life. During his career, he has been featured in publications such as The Washington Post and Al Quds Al Arabi. He is a member of the International Cartoon Movement and has received several awards, including the EWK Award in 2024. His exhibitions have been shown around the world, having participated in “History and Identity of Palestine” in Spain. His lectures at universities like Columbia and Georgetown reflect the global recognition he has received. In 2017, he represented Palestine at the UN with a mural. He has curated three major exhibitions in Palestine and has published books translated into several languages. His first graphic novel, “Power Born of Dreams: My history of Palestine,” has been published in the United States,Italy and France. Sabaaneh also uses his art to support deaf students and traumatized children, asserting that Palestinian art is a form of resistance and a means to inspire hope and peace.
