China’s Communist Party has notched another victory in its campaign to build by 2035 a manned International Lunar Research Station near the moon’s south pole with this Saturday’s successful landing of the Chang’e 6 spacecraft. This episode is about what is at risk if the United States fails to be first in establishing its manned moon base. This episode is coming from Albuquerque, New Mexico, from the stage of the State of the Space Industrial Base Conference and Workshop, organized and hosted by NewSpace Nexus, a non-profit that supports the launch of new technologies for the space economy and for national defense. Laura Winter speaks with Namrata Goswami, an independent scholar on space policy and great power politics and co-author of the book “Scramble for the Skies: The Great Power Competition to Control the Resources of Outer Space”; Lee Steinke, Chief Operating Officer, CisLunar Industries; George Pullen, Chief Economist at MilkyWay Economy; and Chris Quilty, founder of Quilty Space.

Someone Walked Upon the Moon

Back in the summer of 1971, NASA's Apollo 15 spacecraft successfully landed on the lunar surface. Whilst commander David Scott and lunar module pilot James Irwin were having a good time doing geology and driving about in the lunar rover, command module pilot, Alfred M. Worden, orbited the moon. Alone. In a highly elliptical orbit for 3 days he would be 2,234.69 miles (3,596.4 km) away from the nearest living fellow human. He was dubbed "The Loneliest Man in the Universe." Al died in 2020 at the age of 88.

LFO juice is the sonic identity of Carl Jacques, lover of electronic music since an embarrassingly early age. The first album I bought was Autobahn by Kraftwerk and I scraped enough money together for a rubbish synth as a teenager (without advice from The Human League.)

Anyway, I present to you a gaggle of ambient/melodic/EDM tracks produced on a humble lap-top with a modest collection of software. Early influences by Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, 80s synthpop, Underworld, The Chemical Brothers and all things EDM. Currently being inspired by Daniel Avery, Ben Bohmer, Jon Hopkins and Atli Orvarsson. Well, you can dream.
