Upcoming Release: The New Album from the Band Isewlan, Led by Hamouna Isewlan — An Ode to the Desert Mountains

Young singer and guitarist Hamouna Isewlan announces the release of his new album with the band Isewlan, a musical project deeply rooted in the lands of the desert and nourished by a powerful family and cultural heritage.
Born into a family of musicians, Hamouna follows in the footsteps of his late uncle Chamaye, a singer-songwriter who recorded his albums in Abidjan during the 1990s.

This strong family bond remains one of the main sources of inspiration for his compositions, which are deeply anchored in Tuareg tradition and the Saharan way of life.
In the early 2000s, Hamouna began playing the guitar, crafting his own instruments from cans and wooden planks—true to the handmade spirit of Teshoumara.

His love for music grew under the influence of masters such as Tinariwen, Ali Farka Touré, Aboubacar “Karkar” Traoré, and even Mark Knopfler, the renowned British guitarist.

After performing at weddings from 2006 onward, he co-founded the group Aratan Nakal in 2010, before launching his own musical project, Isewlan (meaning “The Mountains of the Desert” in Tamashek).
His musical style is unique, blending desert blues, Saharan melodies, and rhythms inspired by nomadic life.

Drawing from his years spent in northern Mali—between Timbuktu, Gao, Kidal, and Tessalit—Hamouna sings of love, the desert, its mountain chains, camel caravans, and the invisible bonds that unite the peoples of this vast land.
Exiled in Algeria with his family due to the ongoing security crisis in northern Mali, Hamouna transforms exile into a source of creative strength. His new album, Təlle talyaḍt, features ten tracks carrying a clear message: love, lasting peace, social cohesion, and national unity.

Through this album, Hamouna Isewlan delivers a message of hope and resilience to music lovers, urging them to face today’s challenges with these words:

“Be like a star that gazes upon the surface of the water when it is high, and not like smoke that rises on its own toward the layers of the atmosphere when it is low.”
