First thing up here with the rings, it's really nice. With the ER-101 it's fantastic.

It was the popular theme for jests; it was the best cure for headache, it infallibly prevented the hair from turning grey, it imparted a peculiar delicacy to the complexion, it was the National Razor which shaved close: who kissed La Guillotine, looked through the little window and sneezed into the sack...It sheared off heads so many, that it, and the ground it most polluted, were a rotten red.

Happy 300th Marc and all Disquiet Junto members! What a milestone! I've spent the past several months in the realms of video synthesis and haven't been creating much in the audio realm, but I couldn't miss being a part of this celebration. For my three instruments I focused on two within my modular (four notes from the Patch Chord driven by a DPO,  and a voice of four notes from a Mutable Instruments quartet) and one from my Two Voice (where I used the classic cheat of tuning each of the four oscillators to serve as one of the notes in my chosen four note chord) ... all were played and manipulated live on the fly. I chose the intervals as described in Wagner's so-called "Tristan Chord" and played those four notes using the three instruments. Some have suggested that Wagner's use of this chord signaled the end of Western tonal music.﻿ Obviously he did a lot more with it in his opera than I do here.

Wag The Chord (disquiet0300)

When you start thinking about what your life was like 10 years ago--and not in general terms, but in highly specific detail--it's disturbing to realize how certain elements of your being are completely dead. They die long before you do. It's astonishing to consider all the things from your past that used to happen all the time but (a) never happen anymore, and (b) never even cross your mind. It's almost like those things didn't happen. Or maybe it seems like they just happened to someone else. To someone you don't really know. To someone you just hung out with for one night, and now you can't even remember her name.

Harmonàig's 4 outputs are sent to the A-151 sequential switch to make the arpeggios (arpeggii?) Rings is playing.

For the second part of the jam I programmed René to play with Harmonàig's out-of-scale chords, which I hadn't tried before. Love this feature!

This started out as a test of the Monome Arc sequencing the two Oscillators of the Buchla Music Easel while also sequencing Mutable Instruments Rings and Intellijel Plonk... it then turned into a pretty but sad little tune. The seemingly limitless manifestations that are observed during improvisational performance of electronic audiovisual materials drive me to seek collaborative interactions between compositional systems, machines, and myself. In holding space to facilitate an emergence of indeterminate phenomenon through analog synthesis, feedback systems, and field recordings, I share elements from multiple sources to celebrate shapes, patterns, and spaces.

I hold BAs in Art and English from Andrews University, and am currently enrolled in the Electronic Integrated Arts MFA at Alfred University. I was an artist in residency in 2017 at Signal Culture in Owego New York and in 2015 at Sachaqa Centro De ARTE, San Roque Peru. My visual works, and live electronic improvisational performances, have been featured across Peru, at The MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, and throughout the Midwest of America.
 
Note: Much of the work here is subtle in nature and I encourage you to listen via headphones or using a decent system whenever possible. Most computer speakers will not reveal the tracks fully.
