Hoist the sails ye scallywags! It's a new original composition, and shiver me timbers it's an exciting one!

Taking inspiration from nautical adventure movies and legendary composers such as Korngold, John Williams, Danny Elfman and James Newton Howard, this piece showcases my action and adventure scoring with fast and complex brass passages and string runs to make any violinist want to walk the plank!

Remembering them

"Sea Song re-do" begins our exploration of another facet of the Public Resource OMR project -- making derivative works using fragments or passages extracted from of out-of-copyright compositions.

 Christopher O'Hare composed "Sea Song" in 1918. It was intended to accompany photoplays (silent films), with the instruction that it would be appropriate for "surf scenes, on the sea, sailors, etc."

We've recast Sea Song as a lighthearted nautical chill track. The drums and most of the bass are new, but reflect the lilting rhythm of the original piece. The trumpet-like synth lead is improvised over the top. Most of the other parts use passages pulled from the original composition using MIDI tracks derived from the music XML product of the OMR process though most of the sounds are quite different. This new derivative work would probably be amenable to copyright protection, but we're not claiming any.

We'll post a recording that's closer to the original O'Hare composition soon, and will also make the music XML and MIDI versions freely available for download on the Internet Archive in the next few weeks so you can try your hand at reusing parts of the silent film era.

In navigation, a rhumb line, rhumb (/rʌm/), or loxodrome is an arc crossing all meridians of longitude at the same angle, that is, a path with constant azimuth (bearing as measured relative to true north). Navigation on a fixed course (i.e., steering the vessel to follow a constant cardinal direction) would result in a rhumb-line track.

All tracks are instrumental and were written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by myself. 

I play every instrument aside from the drums, which were programed using GetGood Drums. 

All guitars and bass were tracked through a Quad Cortex. 

All synths and keyboards were created using Kontrol.

All other instruments were programmed via Ableton Live.

Curtins: An instru-metal adventure about a mutiny at sea, loosely inspired by the Mutiny on the Bounty (the Brando version).

Babe Vigoda: A synth-wave opera about a guy named Fuzzy trying to get out the criminal underworld, and it's also just a really silly name.

New Jersey based singer/songwriter/producer, Joe Grisanzio has been creating for over 12 years. Over the course of the past year, Joe has begun to share covers and portions of original works on his TikTok and Instagram (both @joegrisanzio). His vocal stylings focus on pop and jazz, receiving classical vocal training since 2015. 

Fresh off of the release of his debut single "Sails", Joe is now finalizing his EP "Beach Boy", set to release in April of this year. This project showcases a combination of singer/songwriter, jazz, and beach pop influences. As a songwriter, Joe is currently developing several collaborations, of which he is the sole writer or co-writer for. 

Born and raised in New Jersey, Joe grew up soaking in a blend of AC/DC, Lady Gaga, Shirley Bassey, and Billy Joel, surrounded by rich music hubs such as Asbury Park and Princeton. These influences directly support his past, present, and future works.
