La musique résonnait partout sur le bateau, apportant une ambiance joyeuse et conviviale de colonie de vacances. Guitare, harmonica, flûte irlandaise, chants de marins ou rap : les styles se mêlaient au gré des envies. Du Pink Floyd joué dans le filet à l’avant du navire, aux textes de rap scandés dans le carré du bas, chaque coin du bateau avait sa propre bande-son.

Musique

À chaque escale, le navire mouillait à proximité de l’île visitée. Pour nous rendre sur terre, nous embarquions à bord de l’annexe par petits groupes de cinq ou six personnes, jamais plus, pour éviter de déséquilibrer l’embarcation et de finir à l’eau. Une fois assis sur les gros boudins de l’embarcation, on se faisait remuer à chaque vague qui venait nous rencontrer. Ces courtes traversées étaient aussi l’occasion d’observer le Bel Espoir sous d’autres angles et de se rappeler l’effet que pouvait produire « ce gros bateau » autour de nous.

L'annexe

Au cours de notre périple, nous avons visité quatre îles : Sein, l’île Saint-Nicolas dans les Glénan, Belle-Île et Houat. Ces petits trésors du littoral breton étaient une découverte pour bon nombre d’entre nous. Ces excursions étaient aussi l’occasion de nous dégourdir les pieds et de rencontrer d’autres visages. Même une fois à terre, le Bel Espoir n’était jamais bien loin. Sa silhouette, avec ses trois mâts massifs, se distinguait au loin, dépassant des dunes ou se dévoilant au détour d’un chemin.

Les îles

S’il ne fallait retenir qu’un seul élément du bateau qui a captivé et fasciné tout le groupe, ce serait le trapèze. Ce morceau de bois suspendu dans les airs, relié par deux cordes, a transformé le pont du navire en véritable chapiteau de cirque. Les acrobates improvisés s’élançaient dans les airs, tentant des figures avant de plonger dans l’eau, sous nos applaudissements et regards ébahis.
