What Brings You Here

Broken Arrow

This track was inspired by a series of four incredible paintings by Thomas Cole. The series is entitled “The Voyage of Life” and depicts “childhood,” “youth,” “manhood,” and “old age.” Each painting shows a man in a small boat guided by his guardian angel through varying ages and terrains of his life. I tried to reflect this, musically.

Guardian Angels are essential beings of God given to each human soul at the moment they are born. They choose the soul based on the journey and lessons they are to learn in life, but can only be fully effective in one’s life if the person has recourse to them, and heeds their teachings and guidance. Your Guardian Angel will be the first to show you where you are going wrong, and how best to change your life. Many Saints, including John Bosco and Aloysius Gonzaga frequently prayed to their Guardian Angel throughout the day by reciting this timeless prayer:

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here,
ever this (day/night) be at my side
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

Ask them for assistance in any matter, or for protection, and then notice throughout the day the signs they will send your way to show you they are right beside you, and to convey the messages you need to hear.

The sonic concept behind this release is "Phyletic Gradualism" from evolutionary biology.

It explores how species evolve over vast periods of time, accumulating minute changes to become something entirely new.

I have translated this quiet, sweeping process into music.

Listen closely, and experience a soundscape that gradually shifts and transforms.

Two Loves explores the quiet tension between devotion and desire — a dialogue between two emotional worlds that cannot fully coexist, yet refuse to let each other go.

Set to music by Caroll Vanwelden and inspired by the words of William Shakespeare, the piece unfolds with intimacy and restraint. A delicate interplay of voice and piano creates space for nuance, allowing each phrase to breathe and resonate.

Balancing elements of vocal jazz, chanson and classical music, Two Loves invites the listener into a reflective, almost suspended moment — where love is not simple, but layered, fragile and deeply human.

The name EGO KNOT is a representation of the infinite nature of identity, the continuous evolution of self-awareness, and the intricate relationship between ego and personal growth. The ego is an ongoing force—neither inherently good nor bad, but something that must be understood and balanced.  The knot signifies the interconnected nature of thoughts, emotions, and self-awareness.

The symbol in my profile picture is a clover leaf which represents good fortune and the initials EK for EGO KNOT.  You will find the EGO KNOT symbol on each song cover.  It is an intricate knot symbol with an infinity sign facing outward.  The word EGO dangles from the knot.  I therefore call the symbol “INFINITY’S EGO KNOT.”

Whitelabrecs was set up by Harry Towell in late 2015 as another outlet to put out experimental electronic/acoustic music. It followed Harry’s previous labels Audio Gourmet, Tessellate and Warehouse Decay and focuses on a collectable series of highly limited edition vinyl-effect CDr packaging, with the first 50 releases influenced by white label vinyl records. The label also runs a digital only series called eRecords, with each of these releases including a special PDF booklet.

Caroll Vanwelden is a Belgian singer, pianist and composer from Ghent, known for her subtle blend of jazz, chanson and classical influences. Over the years she has released a series of distinctive albums, including Colours, Cheek to Cheek, Don’t Explain, Portraits of Brazil and her trilogy Sings Shakespeare Sonnets, Sings Shakespeare Sonnets 2 and Sings Shakespeare Sonnets 3. With her upcoming album Shakespeare Revisited, she continues her exploration of the dialogue between poetry and music. Across these recordings, Caroll moves from intimate piano–voice settings to richer ensemble arrangements, always keeping storytelling, lyric sensitivity and emotional depth at the centre of her work.
At the moment she is working on a new French electro-pop album.

I'm a French individual, born in 1970, and I vividly remember the advent of personal computer-based music production, ushered in by the first affordable digital keyboards and samplers. Music, and especially creating it with machines, is my enduring passion, though it remains a cherished hobby. My aspiration is to compose for modern dance companies, an endeavor I find incredibly fulfilling.

I'm fascinated by how technology enables us to craft intricate musical pieces and master music theory with greater ease. Throughout my life, music has been a steadfast companion during challenging times. My ultimate goal is to paint "emotional landscapes" using sounds and rhythms, evoking feelings and imagery through my compositions.
