Dysphoria concerns an experience common to many people who are neurodivergent and or have experienced trauma. It is both an  outgrowth of my personal experience, and my experience as an educator working with students (and adults). When I was an  administrator, I worked multiple times with the psychologist Dave Melnick of the Northeast Families Institute on matters of workforce  development. In one consultation, Dave introduced me to the concept of "working upstream" with behaviors, understanding the  trajectory of the individuals "interiority" so as to be able to identify where that person is in the cascade of inner events and tailor  interventions. 

In the community of autistic people, when this cascade flows into dysregulated behavior, we call it a "meltdown". The meltdown can be  minor, or it can be life changing, resulting in loss of job, home, relationships, or even injury or incarceration. The interior experience  proceeds in five steps, ending in visible behavioral dysregulation: 

1) physiological deregulation (a feeling in the body that demands relief) 
2) an impulse (to do something about it) 
3) emotional dysregulation 
4) cognitive dysregualtion 
5) a behavior 

Dysphoria does not follow this trajectory in a linear fashion. Each of these stages are entangled, and it's more a question of emphasis at  any given moment

I was exploring what we call the double empathy problem in autism circles.  The fixed media elements are in Bohlen Pierce tuning.  What does it mean to have tuning systems in counterpoint?

Void Distance

Being on the Autism Spectrum, I often have difficulty connecting with people. I often feel like forming a friendship or relationship is like traversing a maze, hence the name of the title track, Social Labyrinth.

I consider music the ultimate form of expression, and the dark, industrial house vibes are a constructive way to illustrate the frustration.

Healing doesn't always come easy, but when you need help with abuse, it can be difficult to know where or how best to go. Therefore, telling your story might make all the difference in someone's journey!

Healing Through Love is here to help victims/survivors find their way back into living a more fulfilling and meaningful life. We interview experts, and survivors of diverse types of sexual assault/trauma and domestic and family violence who have gone through what they are capable of with courage and grace - no matter, if it is just supporting, or seeking professional help - we've got something for everyone!

Nice to meet you. My name is Randy Derricott, an Autistic EDM DJ/producer & Pharmacy Tech based in Coral Springs, Florida (a suburb of Fort Lauderdale) by way of Richmond, Virginia.

Active since 2004, I mainly make & play Trance & Progressive House.  I also sometimes let my nerdy side show by playing what I call "Comicontronica" or EDM remixes/covers of songs from video games, anime & the like.

My adventures have had me perform at a number of venues throughout South Florida as well as some of the biggest conventions in the US, among which include Anime Iwai, Otakufest, MegaCon, Kirbiicon, Colossalcon Ohio & Ichibancon in North Carolina.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I put making music on the backburner to focus on my DJing adventures, both on Twitch and, once things eased, live shows.  I've recently decided to jump back into the music making pool again.  While I do have a Soundcloud with music I made under a past alias, I've decided to make a brand new Soundcloud, since I'll be using my real name going forward.

Steve Owens grew up in upstate NY, and has a bachelor's in musicology, a master’s in Music Education and in July will complete his MFA studies in music composition at Vermont College of Fine Arts.  He developed parallel careers as a concert flutist and as an educator in Vermont public schools.  He's published band, choral, and chamber compositions with Hal Leonard and Alry.  Steve has since left academics to pursue composition full time. Recent performances include a woodwind quintet played by City of Tomorrow, and an electro-acoustic sextet performed by The Playground Ensemble. His latest work, "Dysphoria" for the Truberry Duo, explores the inner experience of neurodivergence, drawing on his own experience as an autistic educator.
