Nginx Nginx: 413 Request Entity Too Large

UPDATE2: with
grep -ri client_max_body_size /etc/nginx/
I found that the site specific config file in /etc/nginx/sites-available/ still contained a smaller value for client_max_body_size - adapted that to something large enough and restarted nginx again - now the error is gone, nice one!


When the web server is set to restrict large file sizes, it can cause the 413 error request entity too large. NGINX has 
client_max_body_size
 to allow the maximum size of the client request body. If the request exceeds the value, an error message emerges. That means we need to reconfigure NGINX to allow the size we want for uploading files.


After that, you can add the following lines in 
nginx.conf
 as shown in the example below. It sets the maximum body size of a client request that the server allows. So, make sure you put the right number as your maximum size.


The "413 Request Entity Too Large" error occurs when the size of a client's request exceeds the server's file size limit. This error typically happens if you attempt to upload an overly large file. The server responds with a 413 error message to indicate that the entity being sent is too large.


The cause of this issue was that nginx was limiting the max body size request to 1M and it seems to inspect Content-Length header before receiving the full request. If it exceeds 1M, it returns a 413 error. See client_max_body_size for more info.


This error message is created by an nginx server, but Kibana isn't using nginx. It looks like you have a nginx reverse proxy in front of your Kibana instance. Make sure to configure it in the same way (allowing large request bodies).


This has been discussed before (e.g., -request-error-while-using-shiny), where the suggested solution is to add
options(shiny.maxRequestSize = 9000*1024^2)
to the code. But this doesn't solve the issue. It's the nginx that is causing the issue, and according to a comment on the SO, client_max_body_size needs to also be changed. How can I do this on my app?

The solution is to increase the client request size body by the 
client_max_body_size
 parameter in nginx.conf file. Following is the description of the 
client_max_body_size
 parameter. The default value is 1MB and you can set this to an HTTP, server or location contexts.


Sets buffer size for reading client request body. In case the request body is larger than the buffer, the whole body or only its part is written to a temporary file. By default, buffer size is equal to two memory pages. This is 8K on x86, other 32-bit platforms, and x86-64. It is usually 16K on other 64-bit platforms.





If this happens then your web server will fail to upload the file and you notice the 413 request entity too large error. In most cases the WordPress hosting providers have their servers configured so that it is easy for you to upload large images and other media.

Uploading larger files failing in dashboard, s3 enabled, nginx reverse proxy enabled, max_upload_size 500M, nginx client_max_body_size 500M
ParseError: 100 XMLHttpRequest failed: Unable to connect to the Parse API
& Timeout error on inspect elements, nb smaller file uploading is working


I have spent alot of time looking through posts online to try and help solve my issue "413 request entity too large" I've tried a few fixes and am still struggling... My skills are very limited so i need very basic instructions to help me make changes.
