The Hard Way

Born in Indiana in 1933. Phill Niblock is an intermedia artist using music, film, photography, video and computers. PN makes thick, loud drones of music, filled with microtones of instrumental timbres which generate many other tones in the performance space. Simultaneously, he presents films / videos which look at the movement of people working, or computer driven black and white abstract images floating through time. Since the mid-60’s he has been making music and intermedia performances in many places and museums all over the world. He is Director of the Experimental Intermedia Foundation in New York. He has been director since 1985; an artist/member since 1968. He is the producer of Music and Intermedia presentations at EIF since 1973 (about 1000 performances). Recently, an Experimental Intermedia organization was formed in Gent, Belgium, to support the artist-in-residence house and installations there.

DJ Set recorded at Sao Paulo's Ibirapuera Planetarium in May 2011. This performance was an improvised live collaboration between Joakim and the Planetarium scientists projecting images and interacting with the music.
There was two 45 minutes sets, this is the second one.

My entry in the 6 Hour Csound Catalogue Challenge in Dr. B's Csound class at Berklee College of music.Made in Ableton Live using only the Csound Catalogue as source material. This piece was inspired by the music of Phill Niblock and tries to create a visual atmosphere, an environment that surrounds the listener and helps them create a world within themselves. The sounds came from the Mikelson Collection in the Csound Catalogue. This piece is licensed under creative commons so do what you like with it, just don't say you made it :) .

5.1 Computer Composition VERY QUIET

This piece makes special study of the just intoned intarval 9/7, which is heard by western ears as a sharped major third.  The piece utilizes an arch form to introduce the audience to a shifting field of harmonies, and then proceeds to introduce the 9/7, as juxtaposed to the even-tempered major third.  The piece resolves on a unison 9/7.
