Sound Out is the alter ego of Irish DJ/producer Shane Dabinett, a veteran of the Irish club scene, with more than 15 years’ experience behind the decks and in the studio. So I did two remixes -  the Nick Hook Remix (house) and the Nick Hook Ambient Remix - which I'm really happy with.

JEEPERS! proudly presents the LUNATIC EARTH EP by NICK HOOK. The EP features two tracks – ‘Asylum Earth’ and ‘Lunatics Reprise’ – that decry the madness of the people who run our planet, and are taken from Nick’s debut album, also called ‘Asylum Earth’.

The album’s title track comes with two awesome remixes from top producers MARTIN SHARP and TIM NICE, plus a new club mix from Nick. 

A chunky house track with a heavy twist of reggae, ‘Asylum Earth’ also features a dub bass line, jangly old-school piano riff and that vocal hook: the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Both remixes are top class, with Martin Sharp’s mix adding a ‘bad man’ break-beat and plenty of reggae dub FX, while Tim Nice’s mix adds a dirty jackin’ house groove with an additional vocal hook.

‘Lunatics Reprise’ is a deep and dark ambient track that uses the same vocal hook as ‘Asylum Earth’, but keeps the vibe mellow and atmospheric.

This is an EP that doesn’t just make you want to dance - it also compels you to think about the lunacy of the people who control planet Earth.

Nick Hook began his DJ/producer career back in the early days of the house music revolution. 

Since then Nick has produced and remixed more than 180 releases on many of the biggest house music labels including FFRR, Zulu Records, Freakin909, Whartone, Hed Kandi, Whore House, Distinctive, Whoop!, Loaded, Ulybug Records, Go Deeva Light, React, Multiply, Om, Limbo, Renaissance, Phonetic, AATW, Jeepers!, Stress and DMC under artist names such as First Life, Soundsource, Pleasure Box, Subterfuge, Hook and, of course, Nick Hook. 

His many remix credits include artists such as The Grid, Gusto, Alex Neri, Hoxton Whores, Adamski, Jay Kay, Sara Parker, OneWorld and Saint Etienne. And his productions have been remixed by such luminaries as Jason Chance, Mike Monday, Hoxton Whores, Soul Mechanik, Jay Kay, Chris Fortier, Circulation, Rachel Ellektra, Dom Kane, James Harcourt, Tim Andresen, Stretch (Stretch & Vern), Dumb Dan and Lucien Foorte.
 
Nick has DJ'd extensively around the UK as well as overseas, where he has headlined at major clubs in Russia, Ukraine, Denmark, Poland, France, Germany, Ireland, Kazakhstan and Ibiza. 

Nick was the promoter and resident DJ of two of London's most legendary house music clubs of the 1990s and 2000s: Loosen Up and Whoop It Up. Both clubs were at the forefront of the UK progressive scene and featured the biggest guest DJs of the day including Sasha, Jon Digweed, Seb Fontaine, Dave Seamen and Timo Maas. Today, Nick is a resident DJ and co-promoter of the highly successful Brighton club night Tech-noir.
