The lyrics of The Death of Baldur are inspired by the tragic tale from Norse mythology, where Baldur, the beloved god of light and beauty, is fatally struck by a mistletoe spear. Baldur, invulnerable to all things except mistletoe, is deceived by the trickster god Loki, who orchestrates his death. His brother, Höðr, unknowingly fulfills Loki's plot and kills Baldur. The death of Baldur marks the beginning of the end for the gods, foreshadowing the apocalyptic event of Ragnarok. This story embodies themes of betrayal, grief, and the inevitable fall of gods, leaving the world shrouded in sorrow and darkness.
