Alongside its unique blend of acoustic guitars, strings, analog synths, and electronic toys, which all play into Mckowski’s haunting and evocative soundscapes; the album is also gifted with contributions from Steve Wickham (viola), Howe Gelb (guitar), Laura Mcafadden (cello), Dave Murphy (pedal steel), plus St Francis Hotel, who adds further elements of atmosphere and production.

“Ask the Dust” follows in the footsteps of recent single “Return of Pygmy Pony” (feat. Howe Gelb) which also originally stemmed from a movie (the Lily Gladstone starring sci-fi western ‘Quantum Cowboys’), plus earlier teaser track “Lake”; with all three tracks due to appear on McKowski’s upcoming LP ‘Notes From The Boneyard’. An ambitious set of ornately designed instrumentals, its ten tracks are intended to transport the listener on a dreamlike waltz through the semi-fictional world where McKowski dwells, known only as ‘The Boneyard.
