From my "Violet Waves" album inspired by characters and themes from my "The Violet Engine" novel. A transcendent hymn where violet flames pierce the veil between realms, awakening primordial forces as consciousness itself becomes the sacred bridge between flesh and divine fire—heralding a mystical dawn that transforms both gods and mortals.

"Where My Roots Run Deep" - An Epic Journey (7:23 min)

From Beyond & Before Music, inspired by the novel "Hinter uns das Land" / "Behind Us The Land" by Frank Talmon l'Armée, comes "Where My Roots Run Deep" – an extended epic rock ballad that musically traverses a lifetime of experience.

This track blends the emotional depth of a rock ballad with elements of progressive rock, metal and mystic folk. The powerful, emotional lead vocals of André guide through the narrative verses, which speak of life's challenges and the search for truth. He is joined by the mystical, often whispered or ethereally sung voice of Adelheide, who imparts profound, almost philosophical insights in intros, interludes, and as a harmonic complement in the choruses.

Soaring choruses, backed by a full band and choir effects, declare the enduring power of one's origins: "THIS IS WHERE MY ROOTS RUN DEEP!" The musical journey includes a three-part instrumental solo. A primal bridge leads to a climactic triple finale and acoustic coda brings the epic to a close.

"Where My Roots Run Deep" is a meditation on identity, resilience, the search for belonging, and the unbreakable connection to one's history, even when facing loss and upheaval. It's a song about how our deepest roots, though unseen, give us the strength to endure and ultimately define who we are.

Past
I started the journey of my life years ago, precisely in 1974. Back in time, in the nineties I composed several songs with my keyboard and the earlier versions of Cakewalk, a basic understanding of music and no gear. As I grew up, I left music behind to move in the corporate environment. It was in 2019 when I came with a new exciting mission: to finish the unfinished compositions and record with the quality deserved. It has been hard to find the time for this, including to learn bass guitar and to mix and master audio.

This is the result of what I love. A dream that came true with hard work. I make a lot to get this project done and the result is amazing to me.

My thanks to my wife, Alba Malva, Hiroshima and Ricardo Leon. Special thanks for Band Lab team and the wonderful work to bring back Cake Walk to life again.

For any who wonders, this work was recorded with a dated but awesome Roland JV-90, an Ibanez SR305 bass guitar, several drum kits and a Cakewalk DAW. Additional gear and plugins were used to process audio to deliver high quality audio to you.

I pretend to continue creating music over time. As this production is a backlog partially composed and recently completed, after this production I will be focused on different projects, with a new concept, exploring different genres and perhaps collaborations.

From Beyond & Before Music, this is "The Anchor in the Gale" – an epic, nearly 8-minute 90s-style Metal Rock Ballad that takes the listener on a profound emotional journey.

While inspired by the overarching themes of the novel "Hinter uns das Land" / "Behind Us The Land", this song tells a universal story. It's about feeling lost in the storms of life, searching for a truth that won't fail, and grappling with the ghosts of the past. It's a journey from inner turmoil to the final realization that the true anchor lies within oneself.

Musically, the song builds from a haunting piano intro, led by the emotional baritone vocals of André, to powerful, full-band choruses with soaring guitars and choir effects. The narrative is deepened by the mystical, whispered voice of Adelheide, who acts as a guide. The track features an extended, melodic guitar solo and culminates in a massive, orchestral finale, reflecting the journey from despair to triumphant self-realization.

Leslie Gentile is a singer/songwriter of Northern Salish, Tuscarora and Scottish heritage. She performs with her children in The Leslie Gentile Band, and with one of her sisters in The Half White Band. Her debut novel, Elvis, Me, and the Lemonade Stand Summer, won the City of Victoria Children’s Book Prize and the Jean Little First Novel Award and was short-listed for the Forest of Reading Silver Birch Award, the MYRCA Sundogs Award, the SYRCA Diamond Willow Award, and many more. Gentile currently lives on Vancouver Island with her husband.
