She was one of the key icons of the swinging 60s, and only just survived the turn of the next decade - when free love, fashion, and hedonism turned to dangerous excess, and acid turned to heroin. This period took the lives of many stars and personal friends, but she came out the other side - finding her voice, subverting every expectation, and creating one of the best albums ever made.
