Rather than the raw Melbourne minimal sound that was dominant at the time, this mix taps into a gritty electro house vibe — heavy grooves, distorted synths, and late-2000s energy with a unique edge.

One of the more unorthodox sets in the Hidden Forest archive — still part of the era, but standing in its own lane.

Le titre Apnée m'est venu parce que lorsque je travaille à des sections délicates, à la recherche ''Du Son '' il arrive que je retienne mon souffle,  d'où le titre .   ;D 

Utilisation de la boîte d'effet Marine Layer de Fender et de ses possibilités de réverbération modulée (shimmer reverb) pour produire la sonorité dominante de ce bref arrangement planant.

The title ''Apnée'' (Apnea in english) came about because, when mixing difficult parts,  in order to get ''The Sound'',  I may indeed hold my breath.   ;D

Use of shimmer reverb capabilities of the Fender Marine Layer pedal  to produce the dominant sound of this brief ambient arrangement.

Émulation électro pop des années 70, influences de  J.M. Jarre ''Oxygène'',  The Allan Parson Project '' I Robot'',  ou encore  Giordio Moroder  ''The Chase''  pour le film d'Alan Parker ''Midnight Express'' et plusieurs autres. 

La mélodie (une seule ligne) est très proche de celle de Madis dans ''Carrying The Fire'',  que je ne souhaitais pas copier, juste avoir un son semblable,  la même atmosphère.

In the style of the 70's of electro pop sound. Influences are:  J.M. Jarre  ''Oxygène'',  The Allan Parson Project '' I Robot''   and  Giordio Moroder  ''The Chase'' ,  for the Alan Parker film  ''Midnight Express'', and many more.

The melody (one line) is similar to the one in ''Carrying The Fire'' by Madis,  that I intended not to copy, but only get an alike sound and feel.

Inspiré les longues plages hypnotiques enregistrées par Klauss Schultze dans les années 70. Vastes panoramas sonores présentant des mélodies et des harmonies appuyées sur des routines de rythmes mélodiques éxécutées par des séquenceurs analogiques.

Ces pièces occupaient toute la face d'un disque vinyl.


Le titre ''Drift'' (dérive) veut illustrer la dynamique de cette méthode de composition reposant sur une certaine part de hasard alors que les sonorités dérivent et s'assemblent pour donner des motifs .

Inspired by Klauss Schultze's hypnotic  long  recordings of the 70's. These would occupy a full side of a vinyl record. Sonic landscapes of melodies and harmonies over repetitive melodic rythms rendered by analogic sequencers.

The title ''Drift'' refers to this method of composing, where chance holds a part, as sounds drift and melt to produce the soundscape.

Ayant trouvé un puissant son de basse, l'idée est venue assez vite d'en faire une corne de brume, bien sûr!

Un peu de boîte à rythme, une texture de polysinthé, et le tableau  d'une brume sur la mer est complet.

Having found a great bass sound, the idea of turning it into a fog horn came pretty swiftly, of course!

A lttle drum machine and synth pad and the picture of fog at sea is complete.

A Patch Of Fog (Un banc de brume)

Cette photo, faite aux Îles de la Madeleine, par Catherine Gagnon,   ces rochers contournés par le vent dans le sable, il n'en fallait pas plus pour donner cet arrangement dépouillé, désert, avec un vent chaud.

Note techno:
La flute  qui chante dans cet arrangement est un programme préréglé venant avec le module synthé D110 de Roland, un appareil d'époque (1988 - 1991) qui continue de fournir d'excellentes sonorités de base.

This photograph, taken in the Magdalene Islands by my friend Catherine, these rocks and sand swirls around them,  it was just enough to render this bare, desertscape arrangement, with a dry wind.

Tech stuff:
The flute singning in this piece is an original preset that comes with the Roland D110 synth module, a vintage device that still delivers exellent basic sounds.
