For the 56th edition of the Set the Mood podcast series, we’re excited to welcome BR!NK. In this mix, BR!NK shares what the perfect opening set means to him:

It begins with a touch of ambient, completely beatless—setting the atmosphere gently. From there, it fluently transitions into deeper techno with a slower tempo, floating around 130 BPM. As the set progresses, it builds toward a more groovy and hypnotic flow. After about two hours, the BPM can rise to 138 or even higher. This natural progression is exactly what BR!NK aimed to capture in his contribution to the Set the Mood series.

BR!NK, the alias of Coen Brink (1992), was born in the Netherlands near Amsterdam and is currently based in Stuttgart, Germany. From a young age, he was obsessed with searching for and exploring new music—an obsession that laid the foundation for his love of House and Techno.

As a producer, BR!NK has released music on respected labels such as Splatter, Sense Affair, Influenced Records, Raw Pendulum, Trau-ma, EvilGroove, Donker, RM Label, Synergie, Schimmer, DifferentSound, and most recently, Safe Space. With a deep knowledge of both timeless classics and the latest underground releases, he crafts atmospheres that resonate whether in the club, at a festival, or during the afters.

In his sets, you can expect high-paced, groovy, and hypnotic techno. This is the perfect opener for that.

Es war mir auch diesmal wieder eine Ehre am Sonntag Morgen eure kurze Nachtruhe zu beenden. Hier treffen sich besondere Menschen um zusammen einer alten schamanischen Tradition zu folgen - dem gemeinsamen Tanz mit Respekt, Harmonie und Liebe. Daher ist es für alle auch immer ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis mit Freunden ein besonders Fest zu feiern. 
Danke auch dieses mal für den unermüdlichen Einsatz der Gastgeben und all die Energie und Freude durch alle Teilnehmer und und die Liebe untereinander, die immer und überall spürbar ist. Ein wirklich ganz besonders Wochenende mit den liebevollsten und respektvollsten Menschen der Szene. Ich fühle mich sehr geehrt und dankbar zugleich immer wieder daran mit meiner Passion, der Musik, daran teil haben zu dürfen.

Set the Mood with PÚCA!

With the theme of "Opening Set" in mind, this mix was recorded in the 128 to 132 BPM range. To PÚCA, a perfect opening set moves through a wide spectrum of moods and energy levels, aiming to engage different types of people on the dancefloor. The goal is to offer a taste of the various sounds they might encounter in the sets that follow. As an Irish DJ, PÚCA often plays opening sets at a higher intensity than is typical in other parts of Europe, a reflection of Ireland's stricter venue hours. That contrast of intensity and softness is present throughout this mix, which still leaves space at the end for the next artist to take things in any direction they choose.

PÚCA takes their name from a mythological creature from Irish folklore, a shapeshifter said to collect people at the end of the night and carry them through the wilds of nature and into other dimensions, only to return them to where they were found. That concept also defines PÚCA’s approach to DJing: taking the listener on a vivid sonic journey with the intention of leaving them in a better state than when the ride began.

Having lived in Amsterdam for six years and played across a range of European venues, PÚCA’s sound has grown more refined and self-assured. Blending different styles and tempos, and using three to four decks to move between moods and build tension, PÚCA remains a true storyteller, always evolving and always exploring.

Dica began collecting vinyl in the early nineties and started DJing a few years later. Over the years, he has played at numerous venues and radio stations along the west coast of Holland. Today, Dica remains committed to vinyl-only sets, blending acid with electro, synth, wave, disco, techno, electronica, and anything else that fits in between. His signature sound is raw, dramatic, haunting—and always drenched in acid.

The 59th guest of the Set the Mood series is NRNT, a rising techno duo known for their deep and driving sound. For them, a perfect opening set is one that builds slowly and deliberately, setting a powerful foundation without revealing all too soon.

NRNT emerged at the end of 2023 and quickly made a strong impression on the scene. Their debut release, Chaos with Drumsauw — remixed by Dave the Drummer — received support from heavyweights such as Charlotte de Witte and Amelie Lens.

Not long after, they joined forces with Ramon Tapia’s Say What Records, releasing their Monolith EP — a powerful collection of tracks that showcase NRNT’s character-rich and hypnotic style.

At the same time, they launched their own imprint, No Rides No Techno (NRNT), as a platform for their unique vision of techno. The debut release Raveland immediately set the tone, and with upcoming tracks like Ignition, NRNT continues to shape a distinct sonic identity.

LA KLARA comes from a small village at the foot of the mountains in the Czech Republic. She has been close to music since her childhood. At the age of 6, she attended an art school where she focused on playing the piano and dancing.

Over time, she fell in love with electronic dance music, which led to the idea of trying to create her own music. She completed DJing courses and is now also educating herself in music production.

Her favorite genre is Melodic Techno, but she also enjoys exploring styles such as Tech House, Progressive House, Afro House, Peak Time Techno, and more.

Schon Ende der 90er Jahre hatte er seinen ersten Kontakt mit elektronischer Musik, war schon bei der ersten Love Parade mit dabei und hat zu dieser Zeit auch begonnen mit Vinyl aufzulegen. Wegen einer langen Krankheit war er quasi 15 Jahre komplett raus aus der Szene bis er 2016 seine Liebe zu Psytrance wieder entdeckte. 
Schnell begann er wieder hinter den Turntables zu stehen und eignete sich den Digitalen Weg des Mixens an. Seit Mitte 2018 hat er auch regelmäßig Bookings und hat in Clubs wie KitKat Club, Weißer Hase, Velvet Monkey, auf Psycedelic Theatre Events, der Goanautica und vielen anderen verschiedenen Veranstaltungen, so wie bundesweiten Festivals aufgelegt. 
Seit Anfang 2021 moderiert er erfolgreich monatlich "Psytrance Spaceship" auf DeeRedRadio und stellt DJs und Psytrance-Genres vor. 
Sein Stil ist melodisch progressiver Psytrance mit Story und einer fetten Bassline.

Founded by friends and DJ/producers Bart Gresnigt (Creznight) and Teun Uijtdewilligen (Æcium) initially, Oefenmeesters is now skillfully navigated by @Creznight.

The set the mood series is a concept-based weekly series about the craft of an opening-set, curated by @Sklasi

The platform serves as a nurturing ground for emerging and exceptionally talented DJs and producers who may not yet have an extensive network. Oefenmeesters seeks to amplify their presence and craft, effectively turning them into the headlining artists of tomorrow.
