This track is made with something I've been working on. It's an alternative firmware for the monome white whale eurorack module called Orca. It represents the idea of creating sequences out of preselected notes where the note played is determined by 4 tracks running on different divisions of the main clock. You can also shift them relative to each other and reset them before they reach the end. It creates these everchanging micro grooves that keep mutating.

The way it works: whichever tracks are active at the moment get added up together, but different tracks add up differently, say track 1 will add 2, and track 2 will add 5, this gives us note 7 (2+5). So combined polyrhythmic tracks create this non linear sequence that might not repeat for a long time. Not sure if this could be done with just the DAW but it should be easy to do with something like Max, Reaktor, Chuck, Processing etc. 

As for the patch itself it's all modular, Shapeshifter, Braids, Piston Honda, Echophon, Erbe Verb and ZDSP.

Disquiet Junto Project 0180: Matryoshka Music
Use the Russian nesting dolls as a model for a musical composition.

Step 1: Consider the Russian nesting doll called the matryoshka, in which hollowed-out wooden figurines are designed to be stored inside each other, excepting the smallest doll, which is solid.

Step 2: Compose a short piece of music that somehow takes as its basis the doll’s structure. (For a further constraint, imagine a matryoshka consisting of 6 dolls.)

Step 3: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 4: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.
