* Ahem!
* Today... I'm going to tell you the story of a Human and a Monster.
* Long ago, a human fell into the underground.
* They were found by the royal family, the Dreemurrs.
* They did not treat the human harshly, as most other monsters would.
* No, instead, they raised them as one of their own.
* Their son in particular grew very fond of them.
* The human lived happily with the Dreemurrs for a while.
* However...
* An unfortunate accident resulted in the death of the human.
* The Dreemurr's son, wracked with grief,
* sought to give the human a proper burial.
* Fusing with the SOUL of the human, he passed through the barrier and to the surface.
* Upon reaching the surface, the other humans, in shock, accussed him and began striking at him.
* Gravely injured, the Dreemurr son stumbled back to the underground,
* and there died from his wounds.
* His parents, mourning the loss of both their children,
* Swore to never let such a tragedy happen again.
* "All humans must die."
* So decreed the king.
* Now, another human has fallen into the underground.
* Will they be the one to stop this cycle...
* Or will they perish like the rest?

* Desperately hoping that one day we'll be free.
* A boy wanted this freedom the most.

* Because of this, SHADOW and the boy, decided to come up with something.

71. Twisted Timelines

[As you reach Heritage, the long forgotten ex-capital of the underground...]

[You start to see things.]

[A figure that was previously unclear now reveals itself.]

* (Suddenly, the memories are flooding back).

* ...A long time ago, a human fell into the capital.

* Injured by their fall, they called out for help.

* That was when I heard them for the first time.

* Having heard the human's call, I brought them back to the royal castle.

* Over time, the human and I became like siblings.

* The Queen and King even treated them as their own child.

* The underground was full of hope.

* The underground was full of dreams.

* ...Then... One day...

* The human became very ill.

* As they slowly decayed, they had only one request.

* They wanted to see the flowers from their village.

* They wanted to reach the surface again.

* That... was impossible.

* The surface can't be reached without immense power.

* The next day...

* ...

* The next day, the human died.

* ...But this was already expected.

* Their death was just part of a premeditated plan.

* A plan to break the barrier definitively, by getting seven human SOULs.

* They wanted me, the prince, to absorb their SOUL and cross the barrier.

* And so I, wracked with grief, put our plan into practice.

* We merged into a being with incredible power.

* With the SOUL in my body, we went through the barrier.

* I carried their corpse into the sunset.

* Back to the village they desired to see.

* Back to the village they desired to burn down.

* We reached the center of the village.

* I searched for the flowers they mentioned.

* And just as I had found them...

* Suddenly, screams rang out.

* The humans, having seen a beast carrying a dead child...

* They must've thought I killed them.

* The humans attacked the beast with everything they had.

* My body was struck with blow after blow.

* I couldn't hold it together anymore.

* I had the power to KILL them all.

* But... I didn't.

* I didn't fight back.

* All I wanted was for them to be safe.

* I took them back with me as I fled, betraying our plan in the process.

* As I grew weaker with every step...

* I smiled at them.

* Heavily wounded, we made our way back home.

* I entered the castle, and carried their corpse onto the golden flowers inside.

* Then, I collapsed inside my own house.

* ...All hope was lost.

* The kingdom then fell into despair.

* The royal family had lost its two children that rainy night.

* A tragedy that would paint the humans irredeemable to the underground.

* As the King carried the prince's SOUL, preserved in a glass container...

* The Queen, struck with desperation, screamed out to her people.

* She said that any human who dares fall down into the underground...

* Shall die.

* The monsters seek to fulfill this royal announcement.

* Even after the Queen isolated herself due to sheer shame.

* It's not long now.

* The monsters only need one SOUL more to be free.

* They'll finally save themselves, won't they?

* ...Hee hee. How silly.

* I know you can prove them wrong.

* You should be smiling too.

* We will all find a way to be free.
