Prior to In The Groove, Susan was the co-founder and visionary behind One Kings Lane, the go-to destination for home decor. One Kings Lane launched in March 2009 and an industry was disrupted. Today One Kings Lane is a daily source of shopping and design inspiration for millions of people both online and offline One Kings Lane was sold to Bed, Bath & Beyond (Nasdaq: BBBY) in June 2016. Susan remains a strategic advisor to the company.
Susan has been featured in national publications including Elle Décor, House Beautiful, INStyle, New York Magazine, BusinessWeek, and The New York Times. She has appeared on Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators and NBC’s The Today Show. Susan was named to Vanity Fair’s “New Establishment” list twice in the past six years.
Prior to co-founding One Kings Lane, Susan held executive positions in the apparel industry—at Ralph Lauren Swimwear, Polo Jeans, Warnaco/Authentic Fitness Corp., and Liz Claiborne.
Susan has an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and a BA from Stanford University. Since 2013 Susan has served on the Parson Board of Governors.

In this episode of the Spark Your Creative Podcast as part of the In the Flow: Creating Over 40 series, I talk to renown jazz musician, songwriter and producer, Kevin Jackson about how his career in music flourished after 40.

How he got started as a musician and his  journey to becoming a songwriter and producer.
What inspires him as a musician.
How he deals with creative blocks.  
What advice  he would give for someone over 40 who wants to start a music practice or career.

About Kevin Jackson:

Baltimore, Maryland native Kevin Jackson, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and music producer has been taking the Smooth Jazz industry by storm since 2012, then ​appearing with a few recognizable artists such as Sheila E, Wyclef, and Maysa.

Jackson's mix of original compositions and acoustic renditions take his listeners on a ​soulful and rhythmic journey​.  Jackson produces projects that offer something for every person’s taste, whether it is Rock, Contemporary Christian, Jazz, Soulful R&B and more. 

Jackson is often thought of as a “quiet giant” due to his humble and quiet nature but, once on stage, it’s easy to see this is where he is most comfortable, and where he comes to life through his music. His live productions set him apart from the rest. In more recent years, Jackson has had the opportunity to open for and perform with smooth jazz artists like Marcus Johnson, Jeanette Harris and Jackiem Joyner, to name a few.

In 2012, when Jackson was over 40, he  embarked on a career to record his first album, Stories In Color, which was met with critical acclaim. His sophomore offering, The Mirrored Truth garnished the single “Favorite Way”, which was considered for a Grammy for song of the year. His song “We Got Us” from his third album Full Circle was also considered for a Grammy in 2018.   

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jackson continued his work and love for music by performing private shows for family, friends, and fans alike.  He successfully recorded his fourth smooth jazz debut album entitled Elevation in August 2021. Two singles, “Elevation", featuring Judah Sealy, and “Druid Hill Park” are currently streaming on all platforms and in rotation on Watercolors, Sirius XM Radio. 

His current single, “KJ’s Vybe” was released in April 2023 ahead of his soon to be released CD in 2024.  “KJ’s Vybe” may also be heard on Watercolors and all streaming platforms.
