“Ragnar’s Revenge” recounts the story of Ragnar Lothbrok’s heroic death in a snake pit and the revenge Ragnar’s sons dish out on King Aelle by way of the legendary Blood Eagle. Ragnar’s defiant last words were “Gnyðja mundu grísir, ef galtar hag vissi” (“How the piglets would squeal if they knew the old boar’s condition”). The boar was a sacred animal to the Vikings, as were the wolf and bear. The boar refers to Ragnar, and the piglets refer to Ragnar’s sons. Hail Ragnar Lothbrok!

The track includes Runic chanting, vocals in Old Norse, lyres, fujaras, horns and atmospheric pads and bassline. Allfather Odin (Alfodr Odinn in Old Norse) is a tribute to the chief God of the Aesir, Odin. 

Ullrson used the runes from the Younger Futhark to spell out Odin’s name as it would have been written in the Viking age: Uruz, Thurisaz, Isa and Naudiz, as well as the vocal in Old Norse: Alföðr Odinn. 

Expect a dark and driving Viking Techno anthem suitable for the legendary Techno Viking himself.

The track includes the chanting of Thor’s name, crashing waves, thunder, a pounding kick drum, talgelharpas, jaw harps, anvils and a dark and haunting war horn. The track conjures up images of Thor’s battle with Jormungandr the Midgard Serpent during the end of the world battle of Ragnarök. Thor is a god who protects humanity here in Midgard (Middle Earth). To the Norse he is Thor, to the Anglo-Saxons, Thunor and to the Germanic tribes, Donar. It’s where we get the name Thursday from (Thor’s Day).

Ullrson - Odin's Wild Hunt [Ullrson Records] Preview

Ullrson is back with his sixth release of Viking Techno. Odin’s Wild Hunt features howling and growling wolves, croaking ravens, a battle cry, war horns, a lyre, an evolving and aggressive synth, a brooding low end and driving percussion. The track is inspired by the Wild Hunt, which is spearheaded by the Norse God, Odin, during the deepest winter and Yule. It involves a ghostly procession of hunters led by Odin riding through the sky or across the landscape. The hunt is often characterized by its chaotic and ominous nature, with the hunters chasing mythical beasts or lost souls. It symbolizes themes of death, the transition between life and the afterlife, and the untamed forces of nature. In many traditions, witnessing the Wild Hunt is seen as an omen or a sign of impending doom. Odin’s Wild Hunt is released on Friday, December 6th 2024, to coincide nicely with Yule.

Nick Bowman is a DJ, Producer and Radio Host from England. He has played several times at Ministry of Sound (CLR / The Gallery / Saturday Sessions / Club Shelter), Pacha London, Egg, Basing House, Scala, and River Thames boat parties where his underground, bass driven techno, minimal and tech house beats tore up the dance floors of England’s capital city.
