Podiumsgespräch vom 5.8.2025, 19:00 Uhr, Mensa Central

Vertreter*innen aus Politik, Kultur und Stiftungen diskutieren, wie Kultur in Zeiten knapper Haushalte gesichert werden kann – und warum sie unverzichtbar ist. Eine Diskursveranstaltung der KulturRegion Stuttgart.

Mit Staatssekretär Arne Braun (Ministerium für Kunst, Forschung und Wissenschaft Baden-Württemberg), Dr. Matthias Knecht (Vorsitzender der KulturRegion Stuttgart und OB Ludwigsburg), Isabel Schwab (Projektleitung Leibinger Begegnungen & Erinnerungskultur, Berthold Leibinger Stiftung GmbH), Jule Fiedler (Kommunikationsmanagement, Stiftungsnetzwerk Region Stuttgart e.V.), Rodger Masou (Geschäftsführer des Kulturkreises der deutschen Wirtschaft) und Dr. Birte Werner (Leitung Zentrum für Kulturelle Teilhabe BW). 
Magdalen Pirzer (Abteilungsleitung Kulturförderung, Kulturamt Stuttgart) moderiert das Gespräch.

Eine Welle rollt auf uns zu: Steigende Kosten, sinkende Steuereinnahmen, angespannte Haushalte. In vielen Kommunen steht die Kultur wieder einmal ganz oben auf der Streichliste. Doch wie können Kürzungen klug gesteuert werden, damit die Kulturlandschaft nicht unwiderruflich Schaden nimmt?
Geschlossene Theater öffnen selten wieder, gestrichene Fördermittel lassen künstlerische Vielfalt versiegen, kulturelle Teilhabe wird wieder zum Privileg.
Kunst und Kultur sind kein Luxus, sondern leisten einen essenziellen Beitrag im gesellschaftlichen Gesamtgefüge – für Bildung, Identität, soziale Teilhabe und demokratische Diskurse. Kunst eröffnet bisweilen Möglichkeitsräume, in denen Menschen die »Last der eigenen Subjektivität« hinter sich lassen und sich in der »gemeinschaftlichen Erfahrung« verzaubern lassen können (Carolin Emcke).
Wie gelingt es, Kultur als notwendige Investition statt als verzichtbaren Kostenpunkt zu verankern? Welche Strategien braucht es, um Kulturfinanzierung nachhaltig zu sichern? Wie stellen wir uns dieser Herausforderung?
Diese und weitere Fragen diskutieren wir mit Vertreter*innen aus Politik, Verwaltung und Kulturbetrieb. Denn eines ist klar: Eine Gesellschaft, die an ihrer Kultur spart, spart an ihrer Zukunft.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen delivers her 2025 State of the Union Address, outlining the EU’s priorities for the year ahead. While the speech is a closely-guarded secret, it may cover issues such as enhancing Europe’s competitiveness, strengthening the EU’s security and defence capacity, building win-win trade partnerships, the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the European Democracy Shield and upholding the rule of law.  To mark this speech, the European Commission and the European Parliament, in conjunction with the IIEA, have live streamed the address, followed by a hybrid expert panel discussion which assesses the key themes explored and President von der Leyen’s outlook and priorities for 2026.
