Parshat Shemini - The Dillema of the Rosh Chodesh Korban

In Parshat Tazria and Metzora, the Torah describes the leper's exile and purification as a powerful spiritual process. The root of slander is a lack of joy—when someone isn't happy with their own small good points, they grow haughty and speak negatively about others. The leper's punishment reflects this inner flaw: total isolation and a closing off from blessing and Divine light. Through humility and joy in even the tiniest sparks of good, a person rebuilds their connection—starting with the mitzvah (feet), activating blessing (hands), and ultimately reaching perception (ears) and the infinite light of the Keter. The purification of the leper becomes a roadmap for all of us to find joy, return to Hashem, and access the highest levels of spiritual light.

Parshat Emor - The Light and Joy of Rebbe Shimon bar Yochay

In Parshat Nasso, the juxtaposition of the Sotah and the Nazir reveals a powerful strategy for confronting spiritual folly. The Sotah, driven by irrational desire, represents a descent into chaos. The Nazir, in contrast, takes a vow to separate, refraining from wine, impurity, and cutting his hair—actions that elevate him toward the Keter, the crown of Divine light. When faced with societal breakdown or personal confusion, rebuke is often futile. Instead, we must access the Keter—the 50th gate of understanding—through personal elevation, vows of holiness, and attachment to true tzaddikim. Just as Shimshon subdued the Plishtim not through debate but by embodying the Nezer from birth, we too overcome irrational forces not by engaging them, but by rising above through deep, joyous spiritual work. Only by drawing down the infinite light of the Keter can we transform darkness into compassion and folly into redemption.

Parshat Nasso - The Keter Access of the Nazir

In Parshat Beha’alotkha, the Midrash describes five holy items hidden after the First Temple’s destruction—the Aron, Menorah, Heavenly Fire, Ruach HaKodesh, and Kruvim. These correspond to the five pathways to joy taught by Rebbe Nachman: finding good points, giving thanks, lightheartedness, hope in the future, and singing and dancing. Because exile is rooted in sadness, these joy-bearing vessels could not exist in the Second Temple. But by cultivating joy through these five channels, we begin to restore what was lost and prepare the world for the Third Temple, when joy will fill Yerushalayim and all of creation.

Parshat Beha'alotkha - The Hidden 5 Vessels

In Parshat Shelach, Hashem punishes those over the age of 20 including those who remained silent during the sin of the spies. The number 20 alludes to the Keter—the crown, the gateway to Infinite Divine Light. Rebbe Nachman teaches that setbacks at the level of Keter are tests: if we respond with yearning and emunah instead of despair, we become vessels for salvation. Those who slandered the Land failed the test—but so did those who said nothing. Only Yehoshua and Kalev spoke up with faith and courage. Silence, when truth must be defended, is a spiritual failure. To access the light of redemption, we must open our mouths—to Hashem and to others—and affirm our desire to come close to Him, no matter what.

Esther Shemtov- Part 4: Shelach Lecha Anashim

In Parshat Chukat, the Jewish people fail a crucial test just before entering the Land. Instead of responding to setbacks with patience and emunah, they lash out—complaining against the manna, Moshe, and Hashem. The copper snake Moshe raises represents the key to healing: Nechash (snake) contains Nun and Chash—the 50th Gate and silence. The light of the Keter, the highest spiritual level, can only enter when we endure its tests with silence and longing. The people were meant to remain quiet and trust—but instead they erupted in complaint, and were bitten. Looking at the copper snake reminded them to subdue their hearts to Hashem. When we stay silent through difficulty and hold on with faith, we become vessels for the Infinite Light. That’s how we merit to enter Eretz Yisrael.

Parshat Chukat - The Snake Test

In Parshat Balak, Bilaam is tested with a divine “setback” when Hashem asks him, “Who are these people with you?”—a question that seems beneath the all-knowing God. Rebbe Nachman explains that this is a test of the Keter, the spiritual barrier that pushes a person back in order to arouse deeper desire. Bilaam fails by interpreting Hashem’s silence as disinterest: “I’m not important in Your eyes,” he says. Instead of responding with humility and longing, he turns to seek validation from others. This reveals the true purpose of setbacks—not to push us away, but to awaken our inner yearning. When we respond with simcha, emunah, and ratzon—when we cry out rather than give up—we open ourselves to the Infinite Light. The test isn’t whether we fall; it’s whether we believe Hashem still cares and wants us close, even in the fall.
