Holy shit, I think I'm finally done with this. This is the 5th version of this god tier song that I've been fighting back and forth for to make a version that *theoretically* sounds like the full thing. I mainly made this version to play out in my DJ sets and I've even passed it around to a couple friends for feedback. Since this song is most likely not coming out for another three years, here you go. The intro was done by haruka, which I have to give a massive thanks for making a really good recreation of the intro's arrangement given that it's rarely heard and for Artistique for helping me out by giving me some great sources to reference from. Virtual Self - a.i.ngel (Become God)(Musubi Bootleg)

Had some down time during the quarantine, and since I've been working on so much orchestral stuff I figured I'd do some exercise.

I bootlegged one of my all-time favorite tracks using the exact limitations of the NES audio synthesizer chip - two waveform, one triangle, one noise and one DPCM (8-bit arbitrary audio) tracks.

I was at the mercy of my DAW since Famitracker does not run on MacOS (not performantly, at least) so of course there are some things in here that wouldn't really be possible on the NES. However, in theory, the track could be mostly re-created for the real NES and it would be mostly the same. Nonetheless, I still think it turned out good enough.

Don't @ me about the sample rate. I'm well aware.

Total time: ~3 hours, done entirely from memory (play count is well into the 5-digit range).

DAW: Cubase 7

Plugins used: Serum, Kick 2, bitcrusher (to enforce 8-bit; no subdivision was performed), and mono-to-stereo (ironically, to enforce mono).

All thanks to Porter Robinson and the Virtual Self project. It's a true testament to the track that it can transcend many different genres and structures (see the Vengaboys edit someone else did - I listen to it unironically, too).
