John's beloved reggae is something he never stopped pushing.  Many people didn't get it, which was their problem, bearing in mind John played damn near everything, that no-one else would.  Reggae as a widely received genre wouldn't have happened without him pushing it enough in the late sixties and early seventies that the majors started releasing work by Marley et al because of the interest generated.
