Faster than 2.1GHz on Windows XP? I chose this notebook because it has the fastest CPU and the largest RAM capacity in my collection. I have others, but they are either XP machines -- or earlier -- have CPUs slower than 2GHz, cap at 4GB of RAM, or some combination of all those things. The games are XP native, which is why I'm going this route, but they are early 3-D. The extra RAM and SSD is intended to give them as much data in the RAM as they can load, as quickly as possible. But at this point, it's the principle of the thing. I'm annoyed that a computer that shouldn't be having this kind of problem is after I spent hours finding 64-bit drivers for it.



I did say earlier that the games won't install on Windows 10. I tried it, and the installer for one of them won't even kick over even in compatibility mode. I checked into using an XP virtual machine, but on my desktop there's no way I'm getting drivers for the VM to run the video card; it's too recent for that. Again, since this notebook is a Windows 7 machine that still had a few XP drivers available, it was the best of the bunch.


I answered that question before it was asked. Regardless, even though I do indeed run Windows 10 Pro, Hyper-V stinks. It doesn't even automatically support optical drives. VirtualBox is my poison of choice when it comes to virtual machine software and I did install a Windows XP pro VM. I'll restate what I said before: there are no XP drivers for my desktop's video card so I'm not getting the benefit of it.
