RE/FORM Spring 2024 DJ Contest: SUGARFREE

This next one’s a very special B2B set from two of techno’s freshest talents. German/Dutch pairing Phil Berg and Lobster have emerged from their respective habitats masters of their art. From raves in both their homelands to releases on SK-eleven, HAYES, Room Trax and positivesource, as well as a shared residency for Vault Sessions that’s brought them here for Bassiani Podcast 210, the duo posit a deep and driving compound of high-voltage rhythms in their day-to-day praxis. Slamming techno that has claimed a rightful space among the greatest names of their generation. Layer by layer, an instinctive formulation of heaving basslines and delicate hi-hats balanced with utmost precision. It’s a seamless communion of complementary worldviews in respect to sound, a rich tapestry of ever morphing loops. It’s focus on gradual build, a slowly evolving chimera in lieu of schmaltzy instant gratification. This latest edition clocks in at three hours, a redacted version of their 12 hour set for the Vault Sessions night at Bassiani back in early February. Immersive and rolling, monolith techno that’s sure to set a higher bar for those who follow.

Well well well... we're back again with the 10th edition of the mix series and as promised, we have something special to share with you. We've been working hard behind the scenes trying to perfect some cutting edge, bespoke visuals to give you guys an audio visual experience like no other. 

Myself and @shed_dnb kicked off the mix series with a 140-170 showcase and it only felt right for us both to grace the channel with a special mix for number 10. The only difference is, this time we're providing some energy with some hard hitting hardgroove. With rolling basslines, consistent rhythms and constant energy, this mix is something we are very proud of and have been wanting to release for quite some time.

SurowyStan - Dj, promotor, producer.
Born in Warsaw, begun his first steps in electronic music as a fan of D'N'B in 2008 at CDQ, Indeks, 1500m2 clubs.
Beining inspired by Black Sun Empire, Cause4Concern he imbibed and sunk in clubbing culture, constantly searching for an unique sound. 

In 2010 after witnessing Love Parade in Duisburg as well as Mayday in Katowice his taste in music shifted to Techno and upon those changes Surowy Stan initiated productions and sets in such genre.
At the beginning his various productions oscillated in Minimal, however with time his music underwent gradual change of subgenres into Minimal, Industrial and Oldschool Techno.
Voltage and tempo is Surowy Stan's flagship of the older productions of artists such as : Pacou, Surgeon, Regis, Exium. In addition, the nature and sound of Surowy Stan- "Harsh Stan", is a reflection of berlin's club Tresor as Harsh Stan /Harsh Sound is a flagship of it.

Apart from all above Surowy Stan is also a proud co-organiser of underground electronic music initiative - Quality Control.

About – Vincent Montoya
Vincent Montoya developed a great passion for techno music at a very early age. Growing up by the Baltic Sea, the rough and gentle sides of the sea are reflected in his track selection and mixing. He chooses his tracks carefully. He packs them with emotion, openness, sensitivity and skillful mixing into sets that capture the intimacy of the moment in front of an audience, in a club or at a festival. His mostly very long, rough and raw austerity and at the same time never-ending driving, pulsating, grooving and hypnotic textures reflect his open and creative understanding of techno as a musical style and as a lived culture. With the diversity of his tracks and his boundless understanding of art, he creates a fluid plasticity that diffuses boundaries and creates a new space without merely playing in it. At the same time, his more compressed and shorter sets don’t lack either impulsiveness nor creativity. Nevertheless, he always takes a step back and puts the sound in the foreground, which is gratefully accepted by the audience.
Vincent Montoya has over 20 years of professional DJ and event experience. This know-how is reflected in his excellent reputation and has already been successfully administered at his own events as well as been highly valued at numerous bookings for events, bars, clubs and festivals.

Vincent Montoya entwickelte sehr früh eine große Leidenschaft für Techno. Aufgewachsen an der Ostsee spiegeln sich Rauheit und Sanftmut des Meeres in Trackselection und Mixing wieder. Behutsam wählt er seine Tracks. Verpackt sie mit Emotionen, Offenheit, Sensibilität und einem gekonnten Mixing in Sets, die die Intimität des Moments von Publikum, Club und Festival einfängt. Seine zumeist sehr langen, von rauer wie schroffer Strenge und gleichsam von nie enden wollender treibender, pulsierender, groovender und hypnotischer Textur geprägten Sets spiegeln sein offenes und kreatives Verständnis für Techno als Musikstil sowie als gelebte Kultur wieder. Mit der Mannigfaltigkeit seiner Tracks und dem illimitierten Verständnis von Kunst schafft er eine fluide Plastizität, die Grenzen diffus und einen neuen Raum entstehen lässt, ohne ihn nur zu bespielen. Gleichwohl lassen seine komprimierteren und kurzen Sets nichts an Impulsivität und Kreativität vermissen. Some of the biggest DJ names in the world hail from Belgium, producing music that has taken us to the furthest corners of house & techno music. Gijs Cox is a good example of what the small country brings to the world stage. A DJ/Producer who is able to merge various genres and combine them into a driving collection of beats and catchy grooves.

He was already on the line-up with world famous artists such as; Snoop Dogg, Sean Paul, Charlotte De Witte, Nina Kraviz, Kölsch, Camelphat, Goose, Soulwax, Boys Noize, Fred Again..., Joyhauser, Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping, Joris Voorn, ... His ability to create that indefinable magic dropping in a set helps it stand out from the crowd. 
From the influences of rock and urban to commercial and 90s/00s straight to house & techno and beyond... His journey is one that transcends boundaries and builds the party atmosphere for all audiences.

In 2021 & 2022, Gijs Cox entered the scene as a producer and it was a huge success! He launched a huge release schedule with songs like 'IDLY', 'By My Side', 'Higher', 'Boom', ... Immediately he was asked to play the opening set at the famous Belgian festival; 'Pukkelpop' (as you can see here; https://youtu.be/vag_zZbOQtU) where he gave the 'Boiler Room' crowd an unforgettable opening set! After only 15 minutes everyone started screaming and singing and the party really started! Briefly; this was one to never forget! In recent years, his DJ gigs have taken him to almost every corner of Belgium, from Hasselt to Tongeren, from Diepenbeek to Bocholt to Roeselare, Lier, Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, ...
