The “Iroquois Pipeline Company” wants to drastically increase the amount of gas they push through their 37-year-old, 414-mile fossil gas pipeline running from the Canadian border to Long Island and NYC. They are seeking a permit from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to double the size of four toxic and noisy gas compressor stations that have long polluted disadvantaged, working-class communities in Dover and Athens, NY. DEC Seeking Comments On Iroquois Pipeline Expansion

How are spaces once imagined to be empty, vast, and mysterious transformed into something with material and cultural value? Two authors tackle this same question, one from the perspective of the seafloor, and one from Canada’s oil sands: key spaces where the meaning of sustainability is actively negotiated. Deepwater Alchemy: Extractive Mediation and the Taming of the Seafloor by Lisa Yin Han looks at oceanic media and shows how deepwater mediation is entangled in existential hopes and fears for our planetary future. Petroturfing: Refining Canadian Oil through Social Media by Jordan B. Kinder looks at how an increasingly influential network of pro-oil groups in Canada work to reform the public view of oil extraction as something socially, economically, and ecologically beneficial. Here, Lisa and Jordan are joined in conversation with Thomas Pringle.

On Wednesday September 3, climate groups will rally outside of DEC headquarters in downtown Albany to urge the Hochul administration to comply with the state's climate law (CLCPA) and to refuse to reverse prior decisions by the state rejecting two gas pipeline projects proposed by Williams. As part of her deal with President Trump for him to allow an offshore wind project off of Long Island to move forward, Goverror Hochul agreed to re-examine the two pipelines. The NESE pipeline would go under NY Harbor. The Constitution pipeline’s planned route in 2016 was approximately 125 miles from Susquehanna County, PA, to Schoharie County, NY, crossing 250 waterways. Sept 3 Emergency Rally at DEC over Trump Pipelines

In this week’s episode, host Daniel Raimi talks with Arvind Ravikumar, an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin, about recent federal deregulation of methane emissions in the United States; specifically, the effects on methane emissions from the production of natural gas and liquefied natural gas. Ravikumar highlights some of his recent research, which explores how all steps in the supply chain of natural gas can affect emissions intensity—including transportation of the energy source to end users—and the variation in methane emissions across countries from their natural gas supply chains.

Measuring Emissions from Liquefied Natural Gas, with Arvind Ravikumar

Established in 2008 by FRIDE as a project seeking to monitor the implementation of the EU Strategy for Central Asia, EUCAM has grown into a knowledge hub on broader Europe-Central Asia relations. With CESS guidance and cooperation EUCAM will seek to continue to raise the profile of European-Central Asian relations in general, and more specifically to:

- Critically, though constructively, scrutinize European policies towards Central Asia;
- Enhance knowledge of European engagement with Central Asia through top-quality research;
- Raise awareness of the importance of Central Asia and Europe’s engagement, as well as discuss European policies among Central Asian communities;
- Expand the network of experts and institutions from Europe and Central Asia and provide a forum for debate.
