(But no Opera and "German Schlager"...:-).

Beginnt in seiner Jugend mit klassischem Gitarren- und Klavierunterricht an der „Bergischen Musikhochschule“ in Wuppertal. Hat mit 18 Jahren seinen ersten Auftritt als Rockgitarrist und schreibt seitdem eigene Stücke. Spielt bis 1986 in mehreren lokalen Rockgruppen, u. a. mit der Rock-Punk-Metalband „The Ugly Germans“ im Vorprogramm von „Die Toten Hosen“. 

Geht 1986 durch ein Austauschprogramm an das „Bethel College“ in North Newton, Kansas, USA. Beschäftigt sich dort mit Kompositionslehre, Musik- und Jazztheorie und spielt in der College Big Band sowie mit seinem Jazz-Trio und schreibt weiterhin eigene Stücke. Schließt das College erfolgreich ab und geht nach Fujisawa (Japan), wo er ein eigenes Heimstudio aufbaut und Einflüsse von Weltmusik aufnimmt. Spielt dort in einer Blues-Coverband mit japanischen Musikern.

Kehrt 1994 nach Deutschland zurück, beendet sein Germanistik-Studium an der „Bergischen Universität Wuppertal“; produziert 1995 unter dem Namen „Mad Dr. K.“ selbst das Album „Asylum Symphonies“ aus in Japan aufgenommenem Material und neuen Stücken. Die CD enthält neun Titel und eine Gesamtlauflänge von 75 Min. (!); aufgrund der Komplexität einiger Stücke kann das Material nicht „live“ aufgeführt werden. Er spielt fast alle Tasteninstrumente, Gitarren, Stimmen und „Programming“ selbst. 1999 folgt die CD „Music for Horror Movies and little Children“, wie die Vorgängerin in Eigenregie eingespielt.

Fünf Stücke von „Asylum Symphonies“ werden 2005 in der Beilage-CD zum „iPod-Special“ des Computerfachmagazins „MacWelt“ verwendet. Betreibt von 2002 bis 2005 die Webradiostation „Blues Radio Germany“. Spielt als Gründer, Gitarrist und Liedermacher von 2004 bis 2008 in der Bergischen Blues-Formation „Smokin’ Joe Kowalski & Freunde“. Die Band bringt ihre Eigenkompositionen sowohl ironisch humorvoll, als auch unverblümt politisch in „Bergischer Alltagssprache“ auf die Bühnen; zahlreiche Konzerte und Presseberichte folgen, u.a. im Vorprogramm von Walter Trout; der Titel „Elfer is’, wenne Schiri pfeift“ belegt beim Fußball-WM-2006-Online-Wettbewerb auf rockwm.de (offline) bundesweit den zweiten Platz – selbstverständlich auch online nachlesbar: http:www.kowalski-blues.de

Produziert 2006 selbst die Instrumental-CD „Acoustic Affairs“; auf diesem Album wechseln sich eigene Kompositionen ab mit Coverversionen weltbekannter Songs; 2011 folgt „Acoustic Affairs II“, diesmal mit zwei gesungenen Stücken. 2016 erscheint „Acoustic Affairs III“ und 2017 das aktuelle Album “§Stringocracy (all strings are equal)§”. Mittlerweile gibt es auch einen Youtube-Kanal und das "offizielle" Album "The String Theory" ist im April2018 beim Kölner "Hey!Acoustics!-Label erschienen.
