“Tempus Fugue” was written over a span of seventeen years. The first sketches date back to 2007; the piece was revisited and reshaped repeatedly until its completion in 2024.

The title plays on “Tempus fugit” (“time flies”) and the musical form of the fugue — layered, interwoven voices moving in parallel yet independently. The wordplay reflects both the theme of passing time and the song’s structural approach.

Early versions carried clear traces of Pink Floyd (the original working title was “Floyd”) and Genesis. Later revisions show inspiration from more contemporary progressive acts such as Porcupine Tree, Opeth and Riverside.

Recorded over many years — first in Asel, in my mother’s holiday house, and later at the Katzenbuckel retreat where we now hold regular recording sessions.
