Lilian reflects on the relationship between ordinary people and planning authorities when landscape change is concerned. Lilian describes a public meeting in advance of the Bestwall Quarry gravel extraction programme, where there were lots of attendees against the change.

In reference to a map of the Bestwall Quarry excavation area, Lilian reflects on how the Harbour might have looked for our prehistoric ancestors. Lilian explains how the Harbour sea level has rose since the Roman period (2 metres, according to a colleague). The excavation map showed that the Iron Age ditches continued onto the foreshore, indicating that land that is now intertidal was once used as part of field systems. Lilian continues onto the etymology of 'Poole', and a theory of geological climate change.
