A dirge is most often considered to be a lamenting piece or hymn, expressing mourning or grief ‘in memory of’ the dead, after the fact, at a funeral or memorial service. anti-dirge is written as a dark and tumultuous representation of living humanity and protest against present world turmoil caused by self-serving governments, regimes, monarchies, institutions, and individuals. For the improvisor, it is also a cleansing rite and an opportunity to engage with personal protestation on a larger platform.

This piece was created through the LCO New scheme in 2022. The current version of this work presented here is created using only excerpts of a stereo documentation recording and double bass, with post-processing in Ableton. The piece is also available to perform live, scored flexibly for various ensembles, with or without soloist or electronics.

Vancouver based Eugenio Battaglia joins us to go over his work as Supervising Sound Editor, Sound Designer and Re-Recording Mixer on Longlegs. The films amazingly successful theatrical run was fuelled by the unique sounds that drive this movie. Eugenio was instructed by director, Oz Perkins, that he wanted the film's soundscape to feel like rock & roll, so the film is infused with subtle sounds of vinyl records, things going backwards, and a vibe of being gritty and unhinged. There are a lot of fun and interesting sound decisions in Longlegs, from unusually loud foley and breathing to the Heartbeat of Hell!

The Sounding Board 4.0 has just been announced by The Cinema Audio Society and The Motion Picture Sound Editors!  So that makes it a great time to push out this talk from last year's Sounding Board, that was moderated by Tonebenders' host Tim Muirhead.  We have all heard many interviews with Re-Recording Mixers, so as a contrast, this panel focuses on the rest of the important mixers involved in the audio post process.  Foley Mixer Gary DeLeone (and his Foley Artist, Michell Kohen), ADR/Loop Group Mixer Jesse Dodd and Scoring Mixer David Boucher all get a spotlight to shine on their craft. After her slow-moving documentary A Mano triumphed in the International Film category at Indy Film Library’s annual awards, filmmaker Angelina Fernandez speaks to Jack about taking audiences on a journey with her unique visual style. Highlighting the importance of post-production, she explains that while the fragments might look disparate during the construction process, they will all come together in the edit.
