Unit 5a: The Development of Print Culture

My latest sound effects library, Printing Presses, showcases a variety of mechanical sounds from three massive web-offset newspaper presses operating at high speed, unique mechanical sounds heard inside a newspaper's plate room and packaging department before and after a press run, and three letterpresses. Each has been captured at various locations with multiple microphones setups (contact and traditional.) You’ll hear presses increasing in speed, humming along at running speed, and then coming to a stop, both gradually and abruptly. Since press runs can be long, I’ve created condensed versions of some, presenting them as ‘sequences.’ In addition, some sounds have been meticulously edited and presented as seamless loops.

Sarah Wallin Huff has enjoyed her work as a composer for concert halls and soundtracks since 1993. Her original compositions have been performed throughout the States and abroad, including the Exeter Phoenix Auditorium in Devon, England; the Mosman Art Gallery in Sydney, Australia; the Zipper Hall in Los Angeles; and the National Opera Center in New York City. As a violinist, violist, and 6-string electric violinist, she has extensive experience playing with diverse ensembles, as well as performing on various recording projects, large and small.
