Don't Stop Now

Run, run, run the race with endurance, not in vain as fools but wise. Run, run, run the race set before us, run in such a way that you may obtain the prize. We know God's kingdom is coming, and so we must always keep running the race!

Karel Husa, the Czech‑born American composer and Pulitzer Prize laureate, forged a distinctive modernist language marked by rhythmic vitality, expressive intensity, and finely etched instrumental color. His String Quartet No. 2 (1953) and String Quartet No. 3 (1968)—the latter commissioned by the Fine Arts Quartet and awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1969—stand among his most significant chamber works. Complementing them is Evocations de Slovaquie (1952), a vivid triptych for clarinet, viola, and cello that draws on folk inflections with both charm and virtuosity.
