Hey Leute,

für die Current Mood 08 haben wir uns diesmal in einer finsteren Kellerwelt verlaufen. 
In einem alten Berliner Verwaltungsgebäude aus den 20er Jahren entsteht heute an vielen Ecken Kunst. Doch die Keller sind verlassen und äußerst düster. 
Die ganze languages Crew hat gezittert... es war fantastisch.

Seit einer Weile sprechen mich dunklere Tracks mehr an als die euphorischen. 
Vielleicht liegt’s am Berliner Sommer, der nicht richtig in Schwung kommt. 
Vielleicht aber auch an dieser unterschwelligen Wut auf die Welt, die sich gerade schwer abschütteln lässt.

Was ich spannend finde: Diese dunklen Grooves ziehen mich nicht runter – im Gegenteil. 
Sie bringen mich irgendwie zurück zu mir. Vielleicht, weil sie den inneren Zustand nicht übertönen, sondern genau da andocken, wo ich gerade bin.

Der Heizungskeller war die perfekte Projektionsfläche für meinen inneren Soundtrack.

Viel Spaß bei der neuen Episode.

Hey guys,

for Current Mood 08, we got lost in a dark basement world this time. 
In an old Berlin administrative building from the 1920s, art is emerging in many corners today. However, the basements are abandoned and extremely dark. 
The entire languages Crew was shaking... it was fantastic.

Lately, I’ve been drawn more to darker tracks than euphoric ones. 
Maybe it’s the Berlin summer that just won’t get going. 
Or maybe it’s this underlying anger at the world that’s been hard to shake.

What I find interesting: these dark grooves don’t drag me down – quite the opposite. Somehow, they bring me back to myself. Maybe because they don’t try to drown out what’s going on inside, but meet me exactly where I am.

The boiler room turned out to be the perfect projection surface for my inner soundtrack.

One of the most loved and respected names in the Australian dance music industry, Kasey Taylor made his mark in his hometown of Melbourne before John Digweed scouted him in the mid-nineties on his first trip to Australia where Kasey was playing the warm up set for him. It was that warm up where he gained Digweed’s instant respect and shortly after he invited Kasey to play at his infamous Bedrock night in London. Kasey is the creative power behind the highly revered Vapour Recordings, the 25-year old mainstay which was founded in 1997 and is over 160 releases deep and still going strong.

More recently Kasey has gone through a massive personal and creative resurgence. The recently rebranded Vapour Recordings is on a roll again with the label releasing regularly after a 2 year break due to the pandemic. The standard of the releases is and has always been what makes the label stand out from the rest, with names like Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Gai Barone, Stereo Underground, Jamie Stevens, Nick Warren, Dousk, James Monro, Mike Rish, GMJ, D-Nox & Beckers and many more high profile artists all appearing on the label. With an armoury of names like that, it’s easy to see why Vapour creates
excitement with the scene’s biggest players.

On a more recent production level, Kasey’s releases and remixes have appeared on labels such as Sudbeat, The Soundgarden, Bedrock as well as his very own label Vapour Recordings. Kasey has a ton of releases and remixes in the pipeline as well as some exciting collaborations with some of the worlds finest producers as he continues his drive to making quality productions to raise the hands of his beloved loyal followers on dance floors all over the world.

Behind the decks, Kasey is a fan favourite at all the clubs and festivals in his hometown of Australia as well as on a global scale too. Since 1997 when Kasey Taylor founded Vapour Recordings, the label has gone on and forged itself an enviable reputation, not only as one of Australia’s leading independent dance labels, but the worlds too.

When you feast your ears upon a new Vapour Recordings Ep, think of it as forward thinking dance music. If there is one defining feature of a Vapour record, it’s that it is just a little ahead of its time. The sort of tune that the average person might put back on the shelf, and then later on hear it out in a club and kick themselves because they didn’t realise how damn good it really was at first listen, and because they knew they had just let a gem of a tune slip right through their fingers.

July 2011 saw the label reach it’s landmark 100th release. The clock was wound back for this one choosing artists from the past, present and future to remix the back catalogue. The package contained some fantastic names, with remixes from the likes of Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Luis Junior, Jamie Stevens, Peter Horrevorts, Nick Warren, Dousk, Rodskeez, Fiord and many more.

There are DJs in the world who have vision. Those who can pick up a sound before it becomes popular and break it to the masses. Names like John Digweed & Hernan Cattaneo spring to mind, and Vapour releases have always found their way into the record boxes and charts of these luminaries. They are attributes that Kasey Taylor has also.

It isn’t easy to turn heads in the underground dance music scene when you are a small record label operating from the ass end of the universe! It’s harder to slip promos to DJs and radio station reps, magazine editors and so on. There’s seldom a chance to drop your own track in front of the big name DJs to prove just how effective your music can be. With that in mind, it’s a real credit that Vapour Recordings has earned a spot as premiere labels on the global market, commanding the attention of all the industry heavy weights through nothing more than releasing quality tunes. No huge advertising budgets, no massive PR campaigns, no industry schmoozing, no shit talking, no sales driven drum rolls, no poxy synth lines – Just a talented collective of like minded artists doing it well from around the globe.
