Deep Water: A Psychedelic Love Song to the Water Cycle

The song wrote itself. We just tried to get out of the way. 

BEST FRIEND is Rikki and Ewan's first pure co-write. And like many good things, it came easy. Riff first, melody/lyrics second, flutes and keys after. We've performed it around Glasgow and this is where Campbell threw on a sax solo, which worked out so well we got him in to record for this 'studio' version. The song sets a melancholic and contemplative atmosphere and reminds us of a quote about poetry "it's a clear expression of confused feelings". 

I'm not sure either of us could tell you what it's about.

Vagabond Sound acts with seasonal sonic episode. This one is a circular journey that goes through psychedelic rock, bossa, dub and deep house. It also comes from nature, from the desire to drop corners and try to be circular, in cycles. 

This set blends elements of psychedelia as expansion of the consciousness, the deep house joined with some pronounced bass lines and synthesizer, soul and finally electronic tracks as an invitation to deconstruct yourself and enjoy your wheel of life.

According to Wikipedia, "San Francisco" is a 1967 counterculture song recorded by Scott McKenzie that was written by John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas.  The song peaked at #4 on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the US Cash Box Top 100 songs Charts.  I did this KaraFun karaoke track rendition at Champions' Bar and Grill in Richmond KY on 4/30/2025. The theme of each episode stems from life experience, referring to the upcoming season. The sonic episodes narrate the natural nuances, with the combination of genres, sometimes with field recordings and vocal brief notes. 

It nurtures a positive mindset, soul inspiration, and emotional transformation through a transcendent journey.

The Complete Set is a collective of musicians who have no particular musical boundaries. The only requirements are melody and harmony. Influences include the Beatles, Bach, the Byrds, Beethoven, 60s soul and motown, Stravinsky, Cream, Hendrix, Nirvana and Stockhausen. Recent achievements include residencies in Hamburg, a tour of the Outer Hebrides and involvement in electronic music extravaganzas hosted by the 3 Castratos and the Lethal Overcoats. Looking ahead and behind, the Complete Set intend to create even more absolutely marvellous music!

Inspired by psychedelia, the future, the past and paganism, MOONGODS are a five piece band from Glasgow who make rock music that you can lose yourself to and get lost in.

Their next release is called BEST FRIEND and will be available on 25th March 2024, the full moon known by the Celts as the Wind Moon.

The song is their first pure co-write and features local legend Campbell Drummond on sax, and was recorded between Southside Vintage Studios and Crescent Moon Studios, both in Glasgow. 

Their first single, ATOM was released on the Super Moon in 2021 and made song of the week on the Saltire Indie Rock Show, received airplay on Hard Rock Hell Radio and was featured on playlists by Scotswhahey and Ravechild.

Songwriters and founders, Rikki (guitar and vocals) and Ewan (keys and vocals) met around Glasgow, the open-mic capital of the world, and decided to join forces. They’ve been busy playing as many stages as possible including the Glad Cafe, FF Bar, Nice n’ Sleazys, The Clutha, Maggie Mae’s, Rum Shack and more. 

Expect big harmonies, unexpected chord changes and feelings of weightlessness. It's opera for the space-age.

Just a little about myself.  About 12 years ago in April 2010, I sang my first karaoke song in public at Hardee's in Lexington, KY and the song was a Sinatra song "Summer Wind".  I finished the song and waited a couple weeks to come back because I didn't really think I had done well.  So I asked the assistant manager what people said and he told me to keep the microphone close to my mouth.  So I have now done 1583 songs by 506 different singers or groups in those 12 years.  The Pandemic was a very rough time in not being able to see and sing for people.  I tried Facebook, but I don't seem to like their sound quality at times.  Another piece of advice I would have is to listen and work with the people who run the shows.  I have gotten to know some great people who I could talk about for a long time.  People like Tom Martin, Cecil (Dusty) Wilson, Scott Rogers (who created a logo for my music), Erik Davig, Charles Sanders, Billy Judd, and Tom White.  We can all learn a lot from our time in music.
