Sup, not remotely hiding my influences either with this one but here's a one-take demo of yet another thing I'm in the middle of that's in the to-do pile. I recently bought an SM57 so I can mic up my guitar amp properly and yeah it's already paying dividends. I'm having fun again.

But yeah, like I say I need to finish a whole lot of stuff but as anyone who follows me on socials knows my health is high up the list at the moment. But we're making time for the good stuff.

Map to the Ground (One Take Demo)

The song originated one night at practice at Pulse Music Productions in Blyth where we were jamming to Eternal Rains Will Come by Opeth. As we were jamming along to it, we figured out a bar chord progression that worked really nicely with the song. This became the chorus to Inferno. We quickly realised a riff we've been playing at gigs since 2015 was in the same key and fit really nicely with the chord progression. This riff was very inspired by The Globalist by Muse. All we needed now was a nice chord sequence for a verse. The chord sequence we created was almost a play on Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits but with more of a proggy take, and a completely different tempo.
               So musically, the track came about very naturally at practice, and we began to forge some vocal melodies. The focal point of the chorus kept navigating towards the word 'Inferno' which fit really nicely with the descending bar chords in the chorus. We quickly realised the direction of the lyrics were our disbelief at where the world is politically, and how each day we seem to be getting closer to a blazing hellfire either from global warming, world war three with tensions between world leaders at their highest since the second world war, a nuclear holocaust (I'd watched the 1984 BBC film Threads at the time), and from seeing pictures, videos, and news reports of the death and destruction from Netanyahu's Israel committing genocide in Palestine. Hallam, our bassist with a masters in English Literature, scribed the lyrics within minutes of the recording of the song.

We've always called ourselves a bit of a punk/prog rock band but so far we've displayed much more of our punk side. Inferno is easily our most proggy song to date. The EP cut is 4:30 so for the radio edit we had to cut a lot of the guitar work (sorry Jake), and the radio edit is 3:20. In terms of how the song fits within the EP. The EP title and theme is a nihilist viewpoint of late stage neoliberalist capitalism, implying that we are already terminally divided, and therefore conquered. With the artwork referencing the death of the core values of the Labour Party, as the red rose of socialism lies limp. Over the course of the EP is the realisation of how little power we have as individuals, in a world where collectivism is frequently ignored or discouraged. Inferno is this turning point, a feeling of abject hopelessness as we hurtle into a hellish blaze.

Lee Healey, cartoonist for Viz comics, did a fantastic job of the artwork for Inferno. The artwork shows twelve disciples of the devil indulging in a last supper with red wine spilt everywhere, with a fiery inferno in the backdrop. The twelve devlish disciples include Donald Trump, Kier Starmer, JD Vance, Kim Jong Un, Vladimir Putin, Elon Musk, Benjamin Netanyahu, Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Ali Khamenei, David Cameron, and Jeff Bezos - all masters of the world's demise.

Inferno - Radio Edit

Them Crooked Vultures are a super group's super group, with John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, and Dave Grohl (from Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stone Age, and Foo Fighters/Nirvana respectively) playing insanely well together. 
I play Elephants, Caligulove, and Warsaw from the April 17, 2010 show in Las Vegas. This is good stuff from a band who should have released more music, imo.

Formed in 1989 as various other names until we settled on Conduit in the early 1990's. Started jamming in a chicken coop, recorded music on a 4-track reel-to-reel, evolved to digital technology, Cakewalk, Acid Loops, etc... in the 1990-2000's.
