This lecture discusses key ideas from the 20th century philosophical short story writer, essayist, and poet Jorge Luis Borges's story "The Library Of Babel" which can be found in Collected Fictions. It focuses on the structure of the library in which human beings live their entire lives. The library is composed primarily of hexagonal cells, each of which contains bookshelves filled with volumes containing what seem be be random combinations of characters.

In the ruins of the cathedral, the machine waits. Its purpose is unclear, its hum steady, its randomness precise. The hands that built it are long gone, their intentions scattered like dust in the stained glass light.

And yet, a melody emerges.

Fragile at first, as if pulled from the cracks of the machine itself. It twists and falters, rising through the chaos, threading between fractured textures. It does not linger—it is too elusive, too human. A brief resonance of something long forgotten, before dissolving back into the drone.

The machine does not speak, but it listens. Its frequencies ripple through thought, stitching together fragments of memory, weaving chaos into fleeting patterns. The air feels alive, charged with the weight of something unsaid.

They say it was built not for power, but for understanding. To hear what cannot be spoken. To shape what cannot be seen. Its final act is sudden—a crescendo of harmony collapsing into silence.

In the stillness, the question lingers: who built it? And why?

It focuses upon his views that much of our lives are subject to fortune, so that events or consequences can go differently than our intentions or plans. This does not mean that we shouldn't do what seems most just, virtuous, and reasonable to ourselves, since we do have control over that.

Rahel is a DJ, creative educator and event producer. Her musical style and taste is eclectically evolving, tailored to the moment covering many genres of house music - her true love. Rahel plays to the moment and from the heart and her sets incorporate deep, tribal, funky, progressive, Latin, bass, world, tech and organic house as well as downtempo ambient, dubstep and classical. 

She is known for ample dollops of driving bass lines amidst eclectic vocal samples and atmospheric builds ~ inspired by the way language touches and moves us. 

In 2023, Rahel co-birthed a new high vibration event, Mystic Valley, with her production partner Corqi. They ran their first multi day festival with Sacred Hearts at NYE 2023/4 and have ran multiple sell-out events in the Byron Shire.  

In 2024, Mystic Valley moved into the space of Regenerative Culture Campouts and this included a micro burn for the soul, Pre Genesis, run at a beautiful private property late 2024. In 2025 they ran their first outdoor multi-day boutique festival in 2025, the Sonicles of Narnia, in collaboration with Lab Leaked Beats. This was an exquisite, intimate community affair, and the team are super excited to work with the evolution of this project.  Mystic Valley had the honour of hosting a stage at Earth Frequency’s 20th anniversary at Woodfordia, representing the best of Northern rivers culture, fusing electronic music and regenerative living. 

In 2025, Rahel co-birthed a new creative project, the Spoken Word Soireé with Sophie Fleming (nee Coldham), and they have ran 4 sold out open mic evenings of poetry and storytelling collaborating with local cafe owners.  Like Mystic Valley, these nights are thematic, and explore topics of Liminality, Polarity, the Elements and Animal Motifs.

She is a confident and accomplished MC, and holds stage vocal presence as well, engaging with the crowd, teasing them and hosting them in play and delight.  
 There are plans to fuse her loves of spoken word, music and creative culture moving forth into the Year of the Horse, after some much needed rest from a huge creative output. 

Rahel plays regularly around the Tweed and Byron Bay shire at boutique events and festivals, including Mystic Valley, Balcony Beats, Nudge Nudge and Sacred Hearts, and in a collaboration with Lab Leaked Beats in a separate project called Wild Rumpus. 

She has been fortunate enough grace stages at Earth Frequency, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Love Camp, Nudge Nudge Wink Wink and Clitoverse and opened as a support act for Mood Swing and Chevy Bass and Uone.
