Jeff Plankenhorn, opening act for Ray Wylie Hubbard, is an Austin musician, songwriter, and world-famous slide guitar player. Plankenhorn opened with a rousing 40-minute set featuring his soulful, bluesy voice, songs from his most recent album SoulSlide, and “The Plank”, a slide guitar of his own design. 

Nashville Sunday Night is a special presentation of Nashville’s Independent Radio, Lightning 100. Each Sunday night Lightning 100 broadcasts a concert from 3rd and Lindsley, one of Nashville’s finest live music venues. Along with Ray Wylie Hubbard, the June 18th show featured Jeff Plankenhorn.

Texan music legend Ray Wylie Hubbard returned to a loud and packed 3rd and Lindsley for Nashville Sunday Night on June 18. Hubbard played hits from his 40+ year career as the audience sang along to every word. Hubbard was joined onstage by several of Nashville’s finest musicians, including Mary Gauthier, Aaron Lee Tasman, and Brandy Zdan, as well as Ray Wylie’s son, Lucas Hubbard, making it truly a special Father’s Day performance. 

Hubbard will release his newest album, Tell the Devil I’m Getting There As Fast As I Can, on August 18 on his own Bordello Records, through Thirty Tigers.

Hearing stories of the old troubadours of Texas, the road always leads to time spent in California. Hearing Texas "icon" Ray Wylie Hubbard tell a story, it almost sounds like a song... one inspired by life's roadside stops.
At 73 (he just played the Opry for the first time, just released what might be his coolest album yet called "Co-Starring", with an even cooler lineup of guests, and on the smash pop-country label "Big Machine" no doubt), Ray's no intention to stop writing now. "I just didn't want to peak too early." he jokes.
