Composed by William Henry Hewlett (1918) about a ship in a storm at sea, and how the mariners in peril found peace (lyrics below). Played on alto, tenor and bass recorders by Dia Souza. Featuring baroque organ and bass played on M-Audio keyboard in Garageband. Accented with ambient sounds of thunder and ocean waves.

Recorded on an iPad with Garageband. Mixed & mastered on  MacBook Pro in Garageband.

Dedicated to beloved friend and fellow recorder player Pat Proulx White, who loved this song so much.

"La harpe de melodie" is perhaps the most iconic example of the Ars Subtilior - a 14th-century style defined by its "subtle art" and extreme rhythmic complexity. Originally written by the Franco-Flemish composer Jacob Senleches (fl. 1382–1395), the piece is famous for its original manuscript notation - the music was literally written in the shape of a harp.

In this release from the Underground Recorder Garden, this ancient polyphonic masterpiece is transported into a modern atmospheric landscape. By grounding the intricate medieval melody and counterpoint in deep Trip Hop grooves and cinematic Downtempo textures, this arrangement creates a bridge across six centuries - connecting the courtly traditions of the Middle Ages with the experimental chillout of today.

This re-imagining features a layered dialogue between the tenor and soprano recorders—the primary voices of this exploration.

Veezy Coffman is a traveling freelance musician that has a focus in jazz, blues, and folk. She reflects the Jazz Era in all aspects of her life. Veezy also plays guitar, ukulele, piano, and sings. Veezy’s music career started during her junior year of high school at a bakery in Ashland Kentucky. Veezy strives to build an environment that centers around America’s past music and culture. She has received a formal jazz education under the instruction of Bob Thompson and Marshall University. With a specific love for Dixieland Music, Swing, and Bossa Nova, Veezy’s jazz heroes are folks like Gerry Mulligan, Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, Bix Beiderbecke, The Duke Ellington Band, and Ella Fitzgerald.

Apart from her public shows and traveling, Veezy offers virtual and live music lessons for both classical and jazz students of all ages. When Veezy is not doing music, she writes her own literary works and runs a craft business with her sister. Her business, La bonne affaire du Madrigal, centers around original literary works, old-world crafts, and music. Veezy is a published Christian author.
